Wenger - Why I decided to sign Monreal

With Kieran Gibbs out for up to six weeks with a thigh injury, Wenger says his new signing could even make his debut against Stoke City on Saturday.

“Of course we had a blow with the Gibbs injury, which is a bit longer than expected, it's such a shame it wasn't Santos instead" the manager said.

“It will be four to six, so we were in a position where we had to make a quick decision, a panic buy. We are poorly prepared and financially unwilling. That explains our buy."

“We bought Monreal as a left back but he can play as well as a left-sided midfielder, like Eboue, he was brilliant when we converted him. We bought him as well because we believe he won't fall over when the ball is passed behind him to Sturridge".

"Unfortunately he is cup-tied for Bayern, Ribery vs Santos will be an interesting one. He is good [Ribery] but he won't be expecting Santos to be out of position so much, so it will confuse him yes"

On news of Diaby "He is short for Saturday, 2-3 weeks"

Because they had no intention of signing him.

Yes. D. Law negotiates the transfers.

And thats why I wonder how much money there is to spend. I don't believe for one minute the preposterous statements by Gazidis.

Its been obvious that the nervousness in the defence has been because of the lack of a holding midfield player.

Why didn't they try for Capoue two weeks ago?

Wenger tactics this time off the field failed badly. Make the same question in another thread before

Its just ridiculous and obvious for the whole season that we need a DM. Now Wenger came out that he almost sign a second player. If you ask me it is smokescreen to suggest his failure and mistake off the field and to calm down the fans.

I'm not sure I do either, but then that beggars the question; why make them? To what end does it serve anyone at the club or a bunch of supporters who rightly feel they're being told a different lie from one week to the next.

Herbie, Wenger knows exactly that fans and the AST expect him to sign players in this January transfer window. It is just to say: well I tried my best but it wasnt possible.

why make them?

Its classic passing the buck to Wenger by a trumped up administrator who doesn't understand what is expected of a CEO. Thats why I am worried by who will follow if Wenger leaves.

Who will we have? None of the board understand how scouting works, how to negotiate deals, how to treat players, how to network.

Who do you believe negotiates the deals?

______________

Not sure about that. Heard its D. Law. I do think that Wenger haggle out the wages and think that he is also involved.

I just don't agree with this. I think Wenger is very much implicit. His £7 million per annum as well as the autonomy in which he's allowed to work subdues any ill feeling he may (but probably doesn't) harbour towards the way the board work.

Complicit. Yes. But architect? No.

Thats why I believe we are in poo. We really first need a change of ownership. If not that, a new management team at board level.

Then we can decide on Wenger.
