Arsene Wenger - The Pros and Cons

In all my time supporting Arsenal, I don't think I have ever seen such a massive divide on what fans believe to be best for the future of the club we all support. So I would like to have a rational debate, on what we believe the pros and cons are of the man that splits opinion more than anybody, Arsene Wenger. Is he still the right man for Arsenal?

Pros
Has won more trophies at Arsenal than any other manager.

Sure bet for Champions League qualification (although this is currently in question).

Has an eye for talent.

Generally well spoken of by players & managers of past & present. Well respected throughout Europe.

Generally has a good record in transfer market.

Wants his teams playing attractive football.

Wants to promote younger players in preparation for future.

Cons
No trophies in 8 years (and counting). Longest drought in Arsenal history. Current squad is not good enough to end this run.

Sets very low targets for club, ie qualifying from CL groups & finishing top 4 = success

Does not find bargains of the past, recent signings more questionable than past signings.

Unable to hold on to best players.

Sells players to 'rival' clubs, ie Nasri, Ade, RVP, Cashley, etc all playing for top 4 'rivals'.

Responsible for socialist wage structure (massive flaw). This has led to our best players leaving and the club no longer able to shift players not in manager's plans. Club is contributing to wages of all players out on loan.

Failure to address glaring weaknesses in squad. ie, Gilberto, Flamini, Denilson, Song, Diarra have all been offloaded and club has not replaced one of them. Often attempts to paper over cracks (tried to sign David Villa to mask defensive weaknesses).

Failure to spend money in transfer market. The club has made profits over the last 5 years despite various sources claiming money is available.

Has lied to the fans on numerous topics, ie injuries, contracts, transfers, club targets.

Tactically inept and no flexibility in formation or team selection, ie club plays 4-3-3 every game and the squad is seldom rotated, even in cup games. Doesn't pick players on form. Why not buy if he doesn't trust squad members? Cannot organise a defence and does not prepare for upcoming opposition.

PR disaster. This is from my own personal point of view, used to love listening to him but he now makes embarrassing comments and seems like he is trying to WUM us.

Reactive, not proactive. You can argue this is a pro or a con really. I consider it a con simply because as manager he should be able to see the weaknesses in the squad or on matchday and act to fix them before he is forced to fix them. ie Waiting for Arsenal to concede is only thing that forces a sub before 70 minutes, or waiting for a player to get injured is only thing that forces him to buy.

Failure to get the best out of current players. ie playing people out of position (this applies to nearly entire squad).

Unable to motivate players. ie they only play well after opposition wakes them up, often don't turn up for big games and don't 'bounce back' from defeats.

Failure to use entire squad. Plenty of first team members on high wages have not been utilised despite Wenger's inability to offload them.

Delusional. Believes squad is better than it is and places faith in poor performers regardless of situation.

If there are any pros/cons that I have left out, please remind me of them. I know this will seem as a bias article as I do want Wenger to go, but I have asked people on numerous occasions, "what does Wenger presently offer that makes you think he can turn things around" and I have never got a straight answer. Usually his track record is brought up, all the things he has done in the past, the 'fact' he is working under constraints from the board or simply the 'fact' that there is no better manager out there available to us.

Based on the pros and cons in this article, do you believe that to be the case? I think the cons far outweigh the pros and show it is time for a change.

You're an embarrassment to the club. #BatmanuOut

Nice "Cons" list you've made there Batmanu. Holds up nicely against the little miniscule "Pro" list you've made.

Mr C, he was clearly trying to quickly get over the pros part so he can tell us how he really felt.

I love how detailed the cons are while the pros are short one liners.

Batmanu's pretty much in the right Saint, imo.

Eh? I thought we were laughing at the way Batmanu did this article. I dont really care about Wenger or Arsenal.
