Youth Players

All this talk of buying players in the summer has got me wondering about our youth players.

By my reckoning we need to buy a quality CD, DM and possibly FR or FC. Not one with potential, but one who is at or near his peak right now.

Also we need to replace any of our squad members with better players.

Since we can spend money now, are any of our young players going to be able to step up to our 25-man squad in the next year or two, or will they just be taking up one of our valuable 25 squad places (once they've reached 21 years of age)?

If any of them are good enough, which current squad member would they oust?

I think:

We'll keep our players, aside from Sagna who'll leave, maybe to PSG.

We'll bring in four players to replace Arshavin, Santos, Squillaci, Mannone who'll leave on Bosman's (Santos for £1 million or something).

Maybe a signing like Adrian too.

Can see Gnabry, Meade and Akpom being promoted.

Meade has no future . he is awful. I can gurantee he won't play more than 5 games

We need to have 8 homegrown players, of which Mannone is currently one, so if we lose him we need a couple more...

currently the ones who are homegrown and considered squad-worthy are: gibbs, ramsey, szczesny, walcott, wilshere, jenkinson, coquelin?

I imagine miquel will replace squillachi as our 4th choice defender, but everyone would prefer a player who would genuniely challenge our current three for a first team place

PSG have 2 RBs already, can't see where Sagna fits in unless they sell van der Wiel who has been underwhelming but on the other hand still gets given game time by Ancelotti

I don't really think logic is one of PSG's main traits. They need results and Sagna will help them do that. If he leaves Arsenal, he will go to PSG.

The rules allow for a squad of 25 registered players, but you are allowed to add to this as many U21 players as you like so that Wilshire, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain do not need to be included in that list.

Also the term 'home grown' can include overseas players as well so long that they have played in England for at least 3 years before their 21st birthday.

At the moment Arsenal have in their squad 6 British born players and I believe that there are another 3
foreign born players who would also qualify as home
grown.

Wenger can of course add a number of other players
from U21 [reserves] such as Meade,Yennaris, Eastmond, Miquel,Afobe who might meet the requirement.

The major problem for Wenger who has announced that he wants to build his team around a British core
is that there are very few British born players worth
buying at moment. Zaha has just gone to Man Utd,Butland acquired by Stoke and the only other player whom Arsenal has shown interest in is Shaw who has just signed a new contract with Southampton.

No worries on the squad front. This seasons squad is only 23 players. Craig Eastmond is part of this seasons squad, and he is nowhere near the matchday squad. Also in the squad are the likes of Squillaci and Fabianski.

Pretty sure home grown is not just about them playing in England before they are 21 but about where they were trained between 16-19 isn't it?

Also, you need a certain number of homegrown players registered in the squadlist so Wilshere and others will have to be registered. Non homegrown under 21's could be unregistered and still play I do believe..

3 years in England before 21st birthday. Matters not what your nationality is.

No. The only rule is a maximum of 17 non-HG and a maximum of 25 over 21s in total.

Yes, you are correct.

ok, well you're normally pretty much on the ball DJ, I just thought I read something slightly different the last time I did my squad registration on Football Manager

However, after just checking it seems FM is in effect the same but words it different 17 / 8.
