Watching Gerrard play the deeper role tonight, and in the past few months, he has been superb. I felt he was struggling to adapt initially to a more deep lying role, but he has adapted to this unfamiliar position excellently. His control, passing and positioning have been superb and I feel Rodgers deserves some credit for this transformation.
Gerrard has always had the attributes to play in almost any position, but a common stick to beat him with was his lack of discipline. I always felt there was some truth to it but it was massively overstated. However, his performances this season suggest we could see him offer a massive amount to the England team in the next couple of years.

Gerrard was playing a more defensive role tonight. The fact that he didn't do anything spectacular must be a good thing? He did his job, without fuss, and was solid.
I thought Baines looked good when he came on too. Could he not play in midfield on the left, with Walcott on the right? The pace would scare the crap out of most teams.

The World cup ain't that far off,and tonight proves that Frank is stillthe most lethal midfielder we've got. Hendo is young enough to make the following World cup.

And how would you know Hendo isn't more lethal when he hasn't played that position?

I don't know Red, I've always wondered why it hasn't been tried. Bale made the switch look easy, but he was fooking hopeless as a defender.

I actually agree that Lampard could be a good option of the bench, but if he goes to the MLS I'm not convinced he'll get picked. I now Beckham was but that was a somewat special case.
Tbh, we aren't gonna win in Brazil, but we can use it as an opportunity to let the young lads grow as a team and further their experience at tournaments. Henderson needs to maintain this form but if he does, he'll find himself in the squad before too long

If he continues the good form that the Liverpool fans claim he's been achieving, than he'll probably get a chance, but there's midfielders who've been performing well for a longer period. You can't expect him to get into the squad based a few good games.

I missed the first 2 minutes,so I never saw line up,I forgot he was even playing till about 20 minutes into the game

As has already been mentioned, he put in a very good display as a holding midfielder. If you didn't notice that, then it says more about you than it does about his performance.

I'm seeing a different Gerrard at Liverpool this season.

maybe it's a twin his parents locked in a shed for the last 30 years as 'the bad one'.
And he got out.
With a point to prove.
