...fluid in attack do we look with Wes Hoolahan? Ok, he's not Messi or Iniesta, but in Wes we have a player who can actually move the ball quickly and some of his touches were delightful.
I know it's only a friendly but for me he has to start against Sweden, hopefully in the furthest forward of a 5.
After Shay has made himself available again what's everyones prefered lineup (if available)?
Mine is:
Given
Kelly
O'Shea
Clark
Wilson
McGeady (much better on the right)
McCarthy
Andrews
McClean
Hoolahan
Long
How much more...

Goes without saying Mumbai!
He brings an energy and urgency to the side that is badly needed.
What a goal as well!!
He has to start against Sweden. I actually rate him at the moment as our best player !

I completely agree, I just can't believe it has taken so long for him to start games and I will be amazed if he doesn't start against Sweden- he gives us that other option going forward in the midfield and brings a desire that was lacking at times.

Everyone can see it except for trap who refuses to acknowledge him. Prefers obedient donkeys like sammon, green, mcshane over ball playing talent everytime. Didn't even celebrate hoolahan s goal last night as he knows he was wrong to ignore him for all these years and was forced to call him up after nearly being sacked after the shambolic end to last year. Nothing will ever change with this old dog, long balls all last night until hoolahan came on and took control. He won't get near the starting 11 against Sweden but sammon might???? Irish football needs urgent evolution and needs to do this by bringing in a relevant mgr, this stale old chancer needs his p45 NOW!!! Wasted too any years to his pettiness and ugly Fred flinestone football, holding us back!

Maybe pilkington for mcgeady whose a headless chicken. Also as far as current stands I'd have Forde over given whose now past his best and sat on a bench! Forde kept 19 clean sheets for millwall last year which is very decent!

i read in the star that trap is thinking about starting conor sammon in sweden

Fair enough, Hoolahan should get more of a chance, and maybe should have been given it a bit sooner......but he has only been in the premiership for a year and and half, and spent only 1 year in the championship before that.

If Sammon starts in front of one of Long, Walters, Doyle, Keane or Noel Hunt ill be pulling my hair out again.. Even Stokes and Leon Best are better options. Hoolahan scoring last night was not good news for Trap, as he obviously doesnt feature in his plans. Andy Reid all over.

Sounds to me like it's going to be Long and Keane up front again from what Trap is saying

I wish he'd just drop Keane for good, I mean I'm sure the guy offers great leadership and advice to the younger heads in the dressing room, but he has the fitness level of a Conference player now and we can't afford to carry any passengers in our already pedestrian looking side.
The Euros proved how ineffective he is against the bigger teams, it's like playing with 10 men.

Robbie Keane's continuous guaranteed starting place is just one of a very long list of problems with irish football and its non existent evolution. Trap still embarrasses himself by hankering after Duff to come back FFS!!! Players cant even retire in peace as Trap cant think beyond his set in stone 442 formation. An absolute pathetic embarrassment of a manager, him and his fat idiot Assistant earning €1.7m combined a year for a few days work??? Laughing at us from their Milan mansions
