A lot has been said about how poor our league will be this season, with the one horse race term being flung about left, right and centre. Now I will admit that it is now a 'one horse race' but if you look around a lot of the leagues in Europe quite a lot are nearly as bad.
English league, Man Utd 12 points clear league over.
Portugeuse league, 2 teams 14 points clear 2 horse race
Spanish league, Barca 9 points clear league over
Greek league, Olympyaikos 15 points clear league over
German league, Bayern Munich 15 points clear league over
Danish league, Copehhagen 12 points clear league over
A couple of other leagues have the old favourite 'two horse race' going on. But the countries that seem to have the better leagues are a lot of the smaller countries, with populations not to different to our own. The Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch leagues seem to be the closest leagues, I know Holland is a lot larger than Scotland but the other 2 have similarities with Scotland, ie population and just a couple of larger cities. So this leaves us with a couple of questions.
1, is our league really that much worse than a lot of others??
2, could it really be that difficult to fix??
We all know there is a real passion for football in Scotland, I just think if its tinkered with properly there is a chance of getting back to a more 3 or 4 teams in with a chance of challenging for the title.
Discuss....
The old one horse race.

The Euro league will arrive before any big dramatic change in Scottish football.

Ally, who said it was good?? What I'm trying to point out is that there is other league out there also with only 1 team who's going to win it!!!!!!!!!!

West coast which other league has the potential of only 1 team winning it for next 3/4 seasons? The spl is dying quicker than this board!

BTG, I think you might be right, a European league would maybe solve a lot of problems most leagues have their largest gap in the league below the 1st or 2nd placed teams you take these teams away and hey presto
But what happens if Barca win the European league 10 years running

Neither the SPL or this board is dying no matter how much you want it to. For me the biggest problem in Scotland is peoples constant negativity..........

I just posted something very similar on the BBC site!
I do think people are too hard on Scottish football - when you consider the ticket prices, TV income and wage bills, we compare very favourably to England in terms of quality.
Most teams in League One have bigger budgets than the (non-Celtic) SPL teams but are miles behind in terms of quality.

Hobo, people are too harsh on our league, and far too quick to rubbish it. I also find the people who complain about it the most often don't even follow teams and support English teams
Scottish fitbas rubbish, that's why I support Chelsea
