There's a guy on Twitter who supports Ajax, and he's going ape because an Ajax ITK (I know, I know) has said that Eriksen isn't signing a new contract with Ajax and has already been in talks with us.
There are plenty of reasons to write this off as utter muck, but the guy himself said that he's normally sceptical of ITKs, but that this other guy was the first to call a few other Ajax deals.
Eriksen would also, obviously, have a host of CL clubs to pick from should he leave, I don't know why he'd pick us. If it was true and he had spoken to us, that also means next to nothing, too - it doesn't mean we're the only ones he'll talk to. On the other hand, stranger things have happened - we had no business signing a player like Suarez considering the state we were in at the time.
I'm hugely sceptical, just thought I'd share. The guy who's retweeting the Dutch ITK is @ybthebest

It happens all the time. Why are fans doubting this? I don't want to come across all Got Better, but he isn't good enough to get in to Real/Barca's midfields. I see a lot more rumours linking him with clubs of Tottenham/Liverpool stature than the current top tier of European football.
That doesn't mean he isn't destined for the top, but he may wish to prove himself at the next level

We need a new centre half, a left full back and a midfielder who can tackle and bully. Eriksen is a cracking player but I wouldn't spaff all the summer budget on him if it meant we missed out on the three areas we need improving.

Liverpool are huge on the continent. players out there like the way we play. they want to be a big piece in a burgeoning project and not an elastoplast on a team who has been there already.

Why assume we wouldn't improve other areas?
Eriksen would cost circa £20m with only 1 year left on his deal, maybe less.
We will get nearly that for Carroll and Downing.

could be another Mata situation.
dint we speak to his representatives and nothing came of it.
cant comment on the player never seen him play, heard he has a bright future, but everyone says that about Neymar.

Seeing as though we will get at least £17m for Carroll alone and West Ham paid over £10m for the vastly inferior Jarvis, we will get more for Downing maybe around the £13m mark (probably off someone like Sunderland with the poisonous dwarf connection)
I think we could be looking at bringing in around £40/50m in the summer. Carroll, Downing, Coates and possibly Skrtel. So signing Eriksen would not be taking up too much of that (if FSG pump in a bit of the new TV money too)
Summer could look like this:
Out
Carroll £17m
Downing £13m
Coates £5-10m
Skrtel £15-18m
In
Ince £4/5m
Eriksen £20m
Williams £6/7m (not a huge fan, but we have been linked too much for there to be no truth in it)
Taylor £6/7m (depends how he comes back from injury, but looked great last season and for GB in the summer)
+ 1 huge signing (if FSG have any sense)
Wouldn't be to displeased with that. I think that we will see a bit more of Coady next season as backup for Lucas, and Robinson will go out on loan.

Your prices are a bit out there.
Carroll (won't go to West Ham) £12m back to Newcastle.
Downing £8m
Coates £6m
Skrtel £12m (supposition that he will leave anyway, I have my doubts that we would sell him, Coates and have Carra retire in the same summer)
