FA Cup, 5th round,
JSS Kick off...
SUNDAY. 15:55.

We'll start off this match thread with a 'Welcome' !
To a Lone Wigan fan under the name of 'Chicken Feed'

This character is more or less the sole contributor to the Wigan ja 606 board, He writes all the threads & gets very little feed back, So I'm sure we will all welcome the guy onto our chat board for this 5th round FA Cup tie at our place on SUNDAY .....Don't forget the late kick off either fellas, a very unusual 5 minutes to 4.... Don't ask, because I don't know either.

WIgan Athletic,
Who would seem to be perennial Premiership survivalists ! & the present situation for them is ...er, as is !
2nd bottom on 21 points.
They are also bottom of the current form league ! with just 3 points from 6 games, as follows..
L D L D D L a sequence of results not unlike our own a month ago.

By contrast, Huddersfield Town, Last 6 games.....(League)
L D L W L D. Not earth shattering, but a big improvement () moving us off the bottom of the form league, from 24th to a dizzy 20th.

So how did Wigan get this far, Alas no Goliath acts or shock wins, having been drawn away at Macclesfield for the 3rd rd. They came away with a modest, 1-0 win.
the 4th round was another run of the mill affair, an away tie on the south coast v Bournemouth, again, they did just enough, another 1-0 victory,

not connected, but also worth a mention, Wigan failed to overcome Bradford City in the League Cup ! It was a 'Home' fixture for the Latics but were held to 0-0 by or local rivals from division 2 ! The Bantams went onto win a penalty shoot out...& better things then on

So. Does Martinez pick 'cup' teams ? there by giving regular 1st team squad members a 'rest' from cup comps ? The two 1-0 victories so far in this competition suggests maybe he does, But. Now we are at the 5th round stage, Interest is gathering momentum...at ALL clubs. The revenue will increase as we get to Quarters & Wembley 'semi's'..
Will Roberto decide to pick a full strength eleven,
Might he see Hudders, as a good opportunity to progress, & get a money spinning tie against a far bigger club in a quarter final !

We can be sure of one thing, Who ever turns out for them, they will use all areas of the pitch, There will be Wingers on display, who are also well supported on the inside, & over lapping full backs.
Typically, they may sit back early on, with a resolute back 4, & let us come forward, there by showing 'our' hand,
Martinez will implement his 'plan' around the 15 minute mark, once he has decided how he is going to break us darn.....
If we set out with just a lone striker... They will very quickly move an extra man into the middle, & leave 3 at the back....
How we respond could be very interesting....or Predictable, depending on your point of view.

On Paper...
Town have done well this week, We 'hold' Cardiff, who are top of our League, then go to 2nd placed Leicester & do 'em on their own patch to reach the 5th rd.

Wigan, Should be fitter & Quicker....Should be. But will they ?
FA Cup.
10 quid admission, ('fiver' conssessions)
Despite all the hullabaloo this last month, I expect a good turn out for this one,
18 thousand + perhaps ?

Nothing to lose this weekend,...points wise,
& an attractive tie the reward for the winners,
As of now, We Town fans don't even know who will be in charge of team selection or The instigator of a game plan !
Even If Robins is revealed as our new manager this afternoon...will he have enough time to have an input, or will he be more than happy to let Lillis & Co see this one out....
He could Inspire us to a resounding win...or,
meddle & disrupt at short notice....
Thoughts,
Team selection preferences
& Bigoted opinions,

Shoot on sight.

Smithies - 5
Hunt - 2
Clarke - 5
Gerrard - 5
Woods - 8
Arfield - 6
Clayton - 4
Atkinson - 4
Scannell - 6
Danns - 6
Lee - 4

Norwood - 6
Novak - 7
Vaughan - 6

Lee is awful, yes, but he was a lamb to the slaughter yesterday with that system, I don't get what people wanted him to do. His only option was to go down and win a free kick or try and miraculously hold it up and wait an hour for a team-mate to support him. Those idiots on DATM are annoying me again as well slating Arfield just because it's a preconceived notion that he's dire, even though he's been our best midfielder IMO since Grayson left and even though Norwood and Clayton have been proper gash for months yet get no criticism whatsoever. Hunt isn't our worst player by a long shot, but for every good defensive display there will be a bad one, yesterday though was horrendous - he couldn't decide whether to get tight or stand off McManaman and every time he did one or the other he either got skinned or lost concentration and let McMananaman in behind him. Then when he did get forward he was gash there as well (apart from one lovely cross which Vaughan headed wide) - the one where all he had to do was pull it back for Vaughan but instead tried to lob it over the defender for himself cost us the chance to make it 3-2 and make a game of it.

blaming full backs for the lack of opportunities wont do terrier..

hunt pushed up a load of times only for the ball to be given away and he was then hopelessly out of position..

its a team game and bar 20 minutes in the second half, we didnt really have one..

the problem is simple..clark pulls everyone too far back and we get a massive gap between the defence/midfield and any forward player we have on the pitch, be that one or two..

we all drop back and thereby cannot get out for long periods of the game allowing the other side a number of attacks in which to get it "right"..

its crap , i dont think for a second its what grayson/lillis or now robins wants but the common denominator in every sh-t defensive performance is "kaptain Klutz".....

I have no idea what "hold" he has over the club but picking him now is just getting silly and very, very annoying..

Is it a coincidence that the men either side of Capt Klug gave Wigan 3 of the 4 goals...Normally they play okay, but Klug arrives on the scene , something goes badly wrong...

We didn't deserve anything from the game, but the 2nd goal was offside, and Vaughan shud have scored that header...then Smithies throws the ball to Gerrard with a striker 5 yards away from him, like minutes from the end when we want it downfield quick as possible...?

Bad decisions, bad luck...but a lot of bad play too...Robins has seen all our gremlins in one game ...so that's good....if he does something about it.

Woods Gerrard Lynch Dixon at the back tomorrow night and lets just go back to basics as far as the defence is concerned.

You can huff and puff all you like guys .. and you can continue to pick on your usual scapegoats Hunt & Clark for all your worth but
I deff don't buy it ..

Never have and Never Will ..

Neither of the Two Previous Managers bought it ensuring Clarke & Hunt were consistently their first two names on their team sheets .. and be fair both those managers Played The Game at high levels ..

Jacko in essence had it in his post above when stating it was the guys either side of Skip Clarke who were responsible for the goals .. and to blame Clarke for Smithies abheration is stretching things a bit too far ..

Take away the Clear Offside Goal AND The Smithies Gerrard bollox and it was a 2 - 1 defeat .. against a tough, boring but well drilled premiership side ..

As I say Huff, Puff & Philibuster all you like but there you have it .. Some of you just Cannot Stand Losing - Which is Simply Incredibly Childish "oh I'm tekkin me ball home" stuff.. ..

An added worry I do have for some of you is the fine detail you MISS or decide not to print in your posts .. Specsavers Guys eh ..

Arfield put an Incredible SHIFT in yesterday for the FULL 90 and he was still Running his Guts to Bits right to the end .. Cas .. ..

I'm no lover of Alan Lee but the moment of the 90 was HIS .. Which was when Right in front of Robins he blasted Clayton and two others around him with every C F and T word imaginable for not hitting him with the long ball (the plan) instead of trying to find the empty chair in front of Scannell .. It was LOUD .. It was a Moment of BEAUTY and when he realised just about Everyone in The Dir Golf Lower Tier had heard him (even tho he was frustrated to sh-t) ~ he turned and gave us all the Biggest Grin you ever saw ..

We Stood & Clapped Him .. ..

POINT BEING .. No matter what plan has been set out in prepping for the game if the players don't enact or carry it out it ain't gonna work

38 Your one of Clarkes biggest critics so let me ask you this, WHY do you think He's Skipper and Selected by Manager after Manager .. ?

Hey & Failed Managers won't do as an answer as clearly we achieved promotion under Clarkes Captainship ..

Look I'm no fool 38 & tbf neither are you SO here's what I predict ..

In Robins we have (far as I'm aware) a Modern Thinking Manager ~ He comes with a great reputation for getting MORE From & Out of his players ~ Let us see then HOW he plays Clarke and in what sort of system - Let us also see WHAT Extra input he shoves in to Jack Hunts reputation growing abilities ..

Jack will be the first to listen & learn .. .. By the way ~

Not Tomorrow or Next Sat both of which we only stand a 30% chance of winning (IMO) BUT OVER THE NEXT 4 Games .. Please report back (unlikely I'll be there~ OR HERE as it happens ..) in honest fashion BUT I Expect to see a MASSIVE Difference .. As I do even from these self same players who with the shackles taken off will have different roles to play ..

Expect To Be Impressed! Hold onto this post .. I'm rarely wrong ..
And even if I am & he drops Clarke Indefinitely and in doing so our team come up Championship Trumps ~ Hey well I'm Still Laughing

Good grief Cas, what an Honest (if a bit sensitive ~ thohey in a nice way) highly informative poster he was ~ We all of us looked forward eagerly to his Post Match reports which made you feel like you were actually there .. I genuinelly always felt he would go onto some quite productive sports journo positions in the same way I'd ~ months ago suggested you had the ability so to do ..

Whether I'm on here or not Cas, I'd still persuade him if your able to do a Guest Match Article always nailing him down to the post match report as an absolute must .. Contentious he maybe, but more often right than wrong .. ..

What an Inspirational Breath Of Fresh Air that would be for Jah ..
