1st ODI: NZ (259-7) bt Eng (258) by 3 wkts

Good (very, very early) morning fellow England fans, good afternoon to the Kiwis and hello to everybody else

England won the t20 series 2-1 with a comprehensive 10 wicket victory in Wellington just two days ago. The slogfest, music and fireworks has finished and today a longer version takes hold.

The first of a 3 match ODI series is in Hamilton. The boundaries are short, so runs should come fairly easily. In the t20 series the Kiwis thrashed England at Hamilton, with England struggling to deal with the swinging ball in the lights.

Anyway, the teams:

NEW ZEALAND:
Watling
Guptill
Williamson
Taylor
B. McCullum (C)
Elliott
Ellis
Franklin
N. McCullum
Mills
McClenaghan

ENGLAND:
Cook (C)
Bell
Trott
Root
Morgan
Buttler (W)
Woakes
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Finn

Umpires: Gary Baxter (NZ) , S Ravi (IND)

TV umpire: Rod Tucker (AUS)

Match Referee: Roshan Mahanama (SRI)

**NEW ZEALAND WON THE TOSS AND BOWL FIRST**

Start time: 01:00 GMT (14:00 NZ)

Killer Stats
- Jimmy Anderson is 1 wicket away from becoming England's highest ever wicket taker in all forms of the game. Currently equal with Sir Ian Botham on 528
- This match is the 3333rd ODI ever

TrueBlue's prediction: England to win by 20 runs

Hello great bowling performance by the kiwi boys in the last 10 overs. Last 8 wickets for 70 odd runs I believe. But I think 258 won't be easy to chase down.

Go NZ!

Great win! Hats off to McCullum and Guptill!

Can't help thinking eng got the bowling plans mixed up with Guptil and McCullum. Disappointed they didn't adapt to the situation and change the length they bowled.

Too many short balls from England at the death.

I think the allowance of only 4 outside of the circle in the last 10. will cost alot of teams alotta wins.. teams batting secondwill win games they shouldnt.

It was a very strange sort of game. England set a solid foundation for a late surge, but that surge failed. Where as New Zealand were a bit shaky in large parts but really accelerated towards the end.

Was shocked by some of the bowling by England towards the end. Short ball meant 4 or 6, where as a good length ball usually resulted in a single or two; and yet short ball after short ball were dished up, particularly by Broad and Anderson.
