no chance, I'll be estactic IF we managed to win the League, doing the double would be fantastic but the treble is just a dream. Not only do you need to be a top top team, you also need a very lot of luck. (99)
Lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
FORGET UNITED DOING THE TREBLE

The treble only happened after the near miracles of Villa Park and the Nou Camp, and after the liverpool game we were feeling ropey about the league.
These narrow margins could have gone either way and we'd just be talking about the '99 side as a very good team.
This team can do the treble. They won't without a massive slice of luck though.

There are a number of incidents in 1999 that really could have gone either way. To name just a few:
Comeback v Liverpool
Inter Milan - goalline clearances (stand up Henning Berg) and Schmeichel star save.
Juve - enough said
Arsenal semi-final - penalty save and that goal
The league run in. United drew a lot of games that season and I believe that it was only 79 points that won it. Lucky that Arsenal did the same and lost at Leeds.
That team had character, was bloomin' good, the best in Europe that season but still it took a lot of things going our way to win the treble.
We can dream about the treble but at the moment that is all it is. It could be down to one trophy in just over two weeks time so perhaps best to wait a bit.
Having said that our position in the league is healthy, a home FA Cup quarter final is all you can ask for and the first leg result in Madrid is something we would have bitten someone's hand off for.
The very best I can see is two trophies and even then we'll have to possibly beat Chelsea, Everton and City in the FA Cup or four of Madrid, Barca/Juve/Bayern/Dortmund etc in the CL. Impossible no, improbable yes.

Or, as Clive Tyldesley said' Manchester United have reached the promised land'. Still gives me goosebumps watching and listening to that commentary. Also quite funny at the end of that game Phil Neville's little hop and jig while a Bayern player laid shattered on the floor.
