Funny old match twas the hudderfield game. The whole build up was mixed. Thoughts of "return of the king" were diluted by the importance of this game in keeping the hopeful hoping of playoff contention. After putting up with part-time-supporters moaning about part-time-supports and the PA guy fluffing up mull of kintyre the game was on.
The importance of the game didnt seem to reflect in the games initiation, with udders pressuring our defense. A udders bicycle kick hitting the post should have been a sign to come but it eventually told. Vaughan volleyed a cross into the box past darlow, then gloated in his mutilation of the forest corner flag. The crowd unanimously sighed muttering "well.... we saw that coming". There was nothing darlow could have done, but the wasnt much the defense could do either. It seemed to bypass all intervention and so fans and players could only shrug it off as 'one of those goals' that teams will always concede. Forest not understanding the importance of this game still tried the trickshots. At the other end a bicycle kick was fluffed when the net was open. It was like they forgot how normal players score and resorted to what they've seen on fifa and youtube videos.
Eventually it all came back and the whole team changed game. Lansbury, who i had been slating for the first 20 mins of the night as ineffective and not doing much burst into the box firing against the keeper for raddi to ping in the rebound. 1-1. Lovely. Almost immediately after, ward headed reids perfect cross (which was looking to go in anways). Back of the net. 2-1. Lovely. From then we played how a 6-1 scoreline would make you think we played. Geddy was on fire throughout the match, winning most second balls, great passing, and great pressure on all uddders players that came near him. Reid just ouzzed class, some neat triangles with cohen and pinpoint set pieces, including an attempt on target which the goalie must of been made of rubber to keep out. Lansbury didnt do much but did well with what he got. Rather than remaining on the wing his CM calling dragged him inside for pings on target which he took well.
The team played with confidence. Players took their men on, something in which fans didnt even know they could do. Triangles and co.cky flick ons inside the udders box had the fans drooling. One of which led to raddis second of the night and buried it into the left corner. Raddi, well he had his magic boots on and clicked his heals twice and pinged it again, against the cross bar from range beyond the keeper and into the net.
The break came and we knew 5 more goals wouldnt be repeated and that the next half would be quieter. Despite that we still played class and midfield bossed. Lansburys CM instinct brought him to trot past the entire udder defence and ping it into the right hand corner. 5-1. However, the midfield did ease off abit and this gave udders more room to move forward resulting in a few chances which darlow delt with, earning the crowd calling his name. However there was one golden one-on-one vaughan should have but away but fluffed it, looking quite sheepish.
Of the subs only henderson looked any class, and that was only because of the goal. McGugan was better than he normally is but still wasnt willing to work for the ball, even if he was he wouldnt be bringing anymore into the squad that lansbury, who he replaced, was offering. He just doesnt cut it, why do we keep attempting to get the best out of a lazy player when theres players like mclaughlin on the lines. Collins i think came on to keep ward in shape for chalton. He had a fantastic game and made some crucial interceptions. Collins alternatively gave players too much space and clearances were limited to pinging it up field rather than a pass to a local player. Halford seemed pretty solid in himself and so had to look after him. Jara and cohen were fantastic as wing backs, even if they were better going forward than defending.
It was a shame dexter and cox didnt score because they thoroughly deserved to, in fact, all of the starting 11 deserved to score. Huddsfield deserved to score, but we play a game in which the balls go into the net. If we were playing "shouda-woulda-coulda" football we still would have won 15-3. Credit to udders, they did come to play and never gave up but theres not much you can do when the other teams in a flurry of confidence.
Bring on the chalton, lets see if this 'billy davis factor' is a limited offer.

I'd like to see big henderson get some starts, he brings a physicality to our front line that we lack.

Billy's a good manager at this level. He was always going to do a decent job in the short to mid term. He's as close to a sure thing as you can get in this league.
The worry is if he can work with the owners in long term. When it comes to transfer windows we'll see if it was a good thing to bring him back or not
