Although champions league football is almost certainly out of the question for both Mersey side clubs. I want to see Liverpool get close and finish ahead of Everton. At least that way it will show progress and hopefully allow us to have a proper challenge for champions league football next season. Providing we can keep our best players and also add some quality experienced players.

Well the FA Cup losers will get Europe if Man City, Chelsea or Man Utd win the Cup.
The only way it will come to 6th is if the FA Cup is contested between two of those three, and Chelsea will already play Man Utd in the QF if they get through.
If the semi-final draw is unkind, or if Man City get knocked out, there is zero chance of the EL going down to 6th.
The only other smidgen of hope would be if Bradford win the Capital One Cup but turn Europe down, then there might be a slim chance it would go to 6th instead, but Bradford don't look like winning anyway.

Given D Phil and the Evertonettes diatribe a few months ago it would be funny.
Everton have finished above Liverpool a mere five times in over forty years. They were absolutely convinced it will happen again this season
It's down to 3 points now and Everton have on paper the harder run in, including the game at Anfield

Why? because you have the budget of a top four club and therefore should be performing accordingly.

On this basis both Chelsea and City should be ahead of Utd because they both have more money and have spent more money.
Sunderland and Newcastle have also spent more money than Everton so they should be above them too by your logic.
Moyes has spent years building a team as he wants and this season he's starting to get results. It's about time. On the other hand we've had a manager since August trying to build his team and yet were only 3 points behind.

Everton's defeat yesterday left their league record at a stunning 6 wins in the last 21 league games.
They are only above us because of the first 6 games.
We will finish at least 6 points in front of them, I am sure of it. We should actually be above them now on goal difference but for a bad linesman error in the derby.

I would be surprised if Liverpool didn't finish above Everton, because Everton have generally been punching above their weight for the last 5-10 years, and any decent Liverpool side should be able to finsh ahead of them, even allowing for recent changes etc.
People were saying earlier in the season how Everton might be contenders for 4th, but I felt that Everton were no better than before, just that the contenders for 4th had slipped a little. I still feel that Chelsea and Spurs are favourites for 3rd and 4th, as I'm not convinced by the quality of Arsenal's squad and Liverpool are both too far back and inconsistent to put a run together - indeed, I wonder if it would harm Liverpool in the long-term if they managed to somehow make it to 4th, as I don't think they have a good enough squad to cope, although a lot would depend on who came in during the summer.
For me it will be Chelsea and Spurs, with Arsenal, Liverpool and then Everton or maybe Swansea, depending how they react after winning today (asuming they don't throw away a 2-0 lead)

Bearing in mind the money your club has spent over the last few years, finishing above everton should be the minimum that is expected.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with Everton fans just before the Cup semi final last year that basically went like this.
Me: I think Liverpool will knock Everton out.
Everton fans: The pressure is all on Liverpool.
Me: Why? We're in wretched form and you're in great form and will probably finish above us in the league.
Everton fans: Look at how much money you've spent.
Me: Hmmm, you mean the money that you lot regularly say we threw down the drain on cräp players who are inferior to yours?
Everton fans: You've spent more than us.
Me: Ye-es, but isn't that irrelevant if the players we bought are, according to you, worse than the players you have?
Everton fans: You've spent 35m on one player, we can't spend that in one year.
Me: ...But you're always saying how you're better than us.
Everton fans: You spent loads of money, the pressure is obviously on Liverpool.
Me: So let me get this straight - what you're saying is that you're a better team than us, higher up in the league, with a better manager, better players and in far better form, but you're not accepting the tag of favourites because we spent a lot of money on players who you laugh at? Gotcha.

I believe I read somewhere that if one of the welsh teams wins a cup competition they will not automatically get europa cup. As the english fa cant use one of their europe quotas on a welsh team. The welsh fa would have to enter them which mean the english fa would have 1 more placw in Europe to give away. Maybe to sixth?
