It's obvious we need at least one CB in the summer, and Rodgers was scouting De Vrij last weekend. I for one wouldn't be too sad to see Skrtel going, yes he had one good season, but otherwise have been very error prone as well his positioning is always dubious (bad trait for a CB).
I could see De Vrij as a young Hyypiä, with a bit more pace! And we need someone who can control the air as set pieces and corners have been difficult for us. This is essential because I see this as the only way most teams can hurt us, as we keep the ball against most teams, and they can't really hit us through sides as we have running power with Johnson & Enrique, which for me have been outstanding for the most part. Agger is fantastic bringing the ball up, and has been our best CB for years now, and seems to have cleared through injuries as well. That leaves Skrtel as the weak link.
It's really no-brainer, a powerhouse CB needed, and I think the team will have much more balance.

Can't see Skrtel being here much longer. When Carragher is deemed to be more appropriate for Brendan's style you know you're in trouble.
Will probably get about £15 mill for him which is decent for a CB. Personally I love Ogbonna but he's more of a left sided CB so De Vrij is perhaps more appropriate.
In failing that Varane he's going to be incredible.

What happened to that Lazio CB who said claimed a summer deal with Liverpool is in the pipeline?
Defense is a problem area and we have seen Agger perform pretty bad of late too but that may just be bad form.

Can't see Skrtel leaving and I don't want him too.
We need at least one no nonsense defender in the side. De Vrij would be excellent as we need a louder voice in defence and I'm guessing he would be just that as he's a captain at 21. That's the reason Carragher was brought back in.

Kelly, I don't mean to do down our own players but I really can't see who is going to pay £15m for Skrtel?
Nobody other than the top teams (e.g. the Manchester clubs, City, Chelsea) or those with no financial sense (e.g. QPR) are going to pay that for a 28 year old CB.
Unless one of the uber-rich Russian clubs take an interest I'd guess at £7-8m tops.
