way back in mid November 2012, Tottenham Hotspur have been on a mighty run of form.
That dark day which began so well with a very strong start from Spurs and a deserved lead turned sour when Ade's ill-advised lunge saw Webb gleefully send him off.
Flat track bullies Arsenal made hay against the 10 men of Spurs although to their credit Spurs continued to play positive attacking football and weren't far off getting back into the game before a couple late goals by Arsenal put some gloss on their performance.
That loss was the 3rd on the trot. We had amassed 17 points from our first 12 games with W5 L5 D2. We sat in 8th place in the league.
That day was a watershed moment. Since then our league form has been nothing short of brilliant, bettered only by Manchester United.
In the 15 games that followed we have achieved the following:
- Wins: 10 (5 home, 5 away)
- Draws: 4 (2 home, 2 away)
- Loses:1 (away).
- Totalled 34 points from an available 45. An average of 2.67 per game, which over a season equates to 86 points.
- Scored 27 goals, at an average of 1.8 per game
- Conceded 17 at an average of 1.1 per game. There have been 6 clean sheets.
Goal Scorers:
Bale: 12
Defoe: 4
Dempsey: 3
Lennon: 2
Sigurdsson: 1
Vertonghen: 1
Dawson: 1
Sandro: 1
Adebayor: 1
og: 1
Looking back over the Harry Redknapp era, we also went on some very strong and sustained runs of form.
Most noticeable were:
2009/10 run-in when we P12 W9 D0 L3 to claim 4th, including victories over Arsenal and Chelsea in the same week and the clincher at City
2010/11 Winter when we P14 W9 D4 L1 to take us to the brink of 3rd, only to blow it at Blackpool
2011/12 first half of the season when after 2 heavy defeats to the Manc clubs we P18 W14 D3 L1.
All in all, we have shown over the past seasons that we can be consistent and keep our form. Typically under Harry we have mirrored these great runs of form with some prolonged slumps.
Under AVB, after a slower start to the campaign as the new regime settled in, we have been consistent and kept it going. I think most look at us now and utter those rarely heard words about Tottenham...."difficult to beat".
This gives me hope that we will avoid any significant slump, although the race for top 4 will go all the way to the wire, of course. It would not be Spurs unless we grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory, unless things really have changed.
COYS!
Since we last played Arsenal....

You really don't seem to score that many goals, and Bale accounts for almost half of your goals over that period Just highlights the fact you need a decent striker even more.

Defoe has been injured +/- in a bit of a lull in form.
Fortunately Bale has fronted up to shame Adebayor.

The only thing i'd like to see us improve on is putting teams to the sword a bit more. Last year, when we were good, we were really good. I don't think i can remember one caning during this season. Arsenal and Liverpool as a comparison, have at least shown that they are capable of punishing teams heavily on their day. We've not done that. Which makes me think we have hit our peak, whereas the others haven't yet. Even if we beat Arsenal on Sunday, i wouldn't bet against them closing the gap before the end of the season. We've got a right bitçh of a run in.

who's this 'Og' player, and is it worth considering playing him ahead of Adebayor, considering he has the same goalscoring record?

Not all of us are blessed with a £70m strike force.

Knowing our luck, Arsenal will end our unbeaten run!
I agree Bahamas, two games vs Inter will be very draining.

Hope AVB sees sense and buys a striker to replace him next season, he's *****ng useless. I'd rather Holtby or even Dempsey play up front than him!
