Jon Fitch cut from the UFC Disgraceful

I wish they would ditch dana for scott coker

Even though Dana is clearly a manchild, he actually provides a huge % of MMA talking points coz he's so outspoken.

I would hazard a guess that most people would miss him quite quickly if he was gone, Coker would be like every other spokeman in sport, cliche'd soundbites that mean nothing.

Cutting Fitch was very harsh though, he's 14-3 in the UFC.

But can see the UFC's point too, he's one of the big earners, but very few people pay the PPV money to watch him fight.

It pays to be an exciting fighter, as unfair as it is, I think it was also designed as a kick in the erse for the UFC's fighters who are getting a bit too comfortable.

Harsh. Based on his record alone he deserved at least 1 more fight. Personally I don't like the way he fights, but I thought his last win against Silva was a great fight, and an impressive performance.

With Dana/UFC there is usually more to it, I'm surprised at the decision and don't really get the 'expensive' reason.

But maybe its also because 11 of his last 12 fights have all gone the distance and this coupled with an inability to finish fights was part of the reason

I think that Dana is trying to change they styles of some fighters. For years wrestlers have been able to just lay on top of fighters and win decisions doing no damage in a fight plus i don't think fighters like Jon Fitch fit in the new glamorous UFC.

You have to change the rules then, not cut effective fighters because they are boring.

At the end of the day, you have to let quality, even if it is boring quality prevail if it is within the rules.

In boxing, the K Brothers are hardly exciting, but you could never decide to just kick them because their jab was too effective and bored folk.

MMA's fad factor is already in decline, and running UFC with the superficiality that Dana does will hasten it. MMA's whole basis is about skillset versus skillset, and if fitch can win fights by wrestling then it's up to his competition to figure out how to defeat his wrestling.
Let's not kid ourselves, the striking in MMA is generally poor, and there's only about 1-5% of the fighters that I would consider as having good kickboxing skills. What MMA does have in spades however are master mat technicians, and that's what the whole sport was founded on basically.
I think the focus on striking and being 'exciting' really keeps MMA confined to being a spectacle sport, which is a huge detriment to the fighters overall.

Fitch is the boring lay on top of you fighter. Though i understand it is a part of the sport not many people want to see that. You can wrestle but use ground and pound to score points not just laying on top of someone if he wants to wrestle go and join the Olympic team
