Today is my official JA606 first birthday. As I haven't written many articles in the space of a year I thought I should post one today.
One question. If you could change/ scrap any ONE current rule in football what would it be and why? Please keep it sensible. No scrapping the offside rule or having 2 keepers in goal!
Mine would be ditching the yellow card for OTT goal celebrations/ shirt removal especially when it would result in a sending off for a second booking. This rule has been around ten years or so (health and safety related?) and seems quite pointless to me when there are far more serious actions on the pitch that often go unpunished.

The ref could have full discretion over whether the second yellow gets him sent off or just sin binned.

Shut up about the sin bin

I would change the rule whereby you can obstruct an attacker if you are a defender and the ball is running out of play for a goal kick. However, you are not allowed to obstruct a player anywhere else on the pitch. Bloody stupid.

Rodger's Revolution
I dont know AHB, that would be up to the ref, I just think sometimes a straight red is too harsh in some cases, but a yellow is not harsh enough.

I wouldn't change a rule if I can invent one instead though. It'd be Gareth Bale receives a yellow card every time he does that heart celebration. I don't know why, but it annoys the shiite out of me.

Some good calls. I certainly agree with the yellow cards unable to be rescinded or retrospectively punished with a red/ ban. I was waiting for a ban on Fergie Time; nearly suggested that one myself!
TBH the FA need to come down heavier on things such as diving, feining injury and time wasting. Taking longer than 8 seconds to take a throw or goal kick at any point in the game is ridiculous - yellow card.
Like with so many things, common sense needs to be used far more than what it is with regards to issues such as tackling and the latest epidemic of handballs in the penalty area. Sadly I think the world is running out of common sense quicker than it is fossil fuels.

The rule i would scrap is the inability to use a player you bought in the January transfer window because they are 'cup Tied'.

The worst for this was when Jordan Ibe aged 15 scored his first goal for Wycombe Wanderers, ran across the pitch to hug his mother and the ref gave him a yellow.
He's hugging his mum ref!

could have yellow as per normal
two yellow = sin bin
sin bin + 3rd yellow = red
straight sin bin
straight red

Disagree. The games aren't long enough to have 3 yellows.
I think Graham Poll disagrees.
