Like michael vaughan aluded to.. There should be more testing.. Anyone can take drugs in the off season.. Just no way of knowing. saying that he died in June,, which is a cricketing month. Someone should have known something.. They need investingating and the drug dealers.

It's easy, just ban anyone who shaves their head....
There needs to be a tougher stance and a much more rigorous testing programme.
It's sad it's taken a tragedy like this to spur people on.

recreational drugs in cricket have been going on for decades. the last 'golden generation' of english cricketers - botham, gower, lamb etc., - frequently joke about the off field antics and are seen as legends for it. my own county, warwickshire, were winning everything mid 90s with a number of players who have since admitted or been caught on one substance or another.
drugs are no worse for a player's health than the excess drinking of a freddy flintoff or merv hughes - again both considered to be heroes for their larger than life appetites as much as their performances on the pitch.
maynard was a tragedy but for me the real question here is where was the support and concern of colleagues, teammates, and club who must surely have known tom was pushing things too far. if he had been a regular drug user for four months prior to his death then it sounds like he may have had a serious dependency building up which should have been noticed and may well have come about from underlying problems. simply to call for more random drug testing is to over simplify what has happened here IMO.
