I find it interesting how the current Premier League table has arranged itself into clusters of local teams being next to each other in the table, ie. United and City then the London clubs, then the Scousers then the North East. And also in the clusters that don't follow that pattern, the groups of teams placed next to each other are of similar style, reputation, ambition, quality etc at this current moment in time. Positions 1-5 are the top boys with the most cash who were expected to be in those spots. 6-9 are the decent looking upcoming teams with good management and structure but not quite the quality of the top 5. 10-12 are the boring dirty teams, perfect for mid table. 13-17 are the ones that try to play with some kind of style but it doesn't quite always work or they don't have the top players, making them vulnerable. The bottom 3 simply have the weakest squads, for different reasons but IMO they are still the weakest. Only points I think could be challenged are Liverpool fans might think they should be higher than Spurs and Everton, Fulham might be considered to be a footballing team (but they are still in correct position) and Villa might argue they have a better squad than Wigan. Other than that I think the current table is exactly how it 'should' look.
League Table is Exactly Correct

GD very rarely settles anything...last season's title race was an anomaly.

If Spurs had drawn just one more game last season, GD would have meant 3rd place.

We didn't though, that's the point. It's a very rare occurrence and shouldn't be fretted over

Not fretting, but it is a consideration.

Last season, the top 2 finished on the same points, and success was decided on GD. 3rd/4th finished with the same GD, and were separated by 1 pt.
I would not be so dismissive of GD as some ...

Last season was an anomaly RBDB - that hasn't happened in a title race since Liverpool and Arsenal in 89.
Can you remember any other things being settled by GD in Prem history (nice round 20yrs)? Relegation? European qualification?

1-in-20 for the title.
I wonder how many pairs of sides finish with identical points every season?

My guess is only one pair on average

"My guess is only one pair on average"
Don't guess, go forth and gather the data.

On the move....will do it later at the PC.
Can you think of any other instances (where it has mattered)?
