Where in the rule book does it say you can kick someone in the chest, whether it be intentional or otherwise?

Yeah I genuinely don't understand why everyone was so shocked by that decision. What was the difference between that and De Jong's kung-fu special on Alonso in the WC final? Nothing, yet everyone was calling for Howard Webb to be executed for not sending off De Jong.

Imagine it was the other way around and are loa had done that to nano and got a yellow......
Yanited fans would be screaming for a red and if the ref had produced one they would be defending the decision.... Football fans aye...

"Kicking an opponent in the chest is a straight red, unless a united player does it - then it's ok"
The ref is clueless.

United fans are just in shock that a decision went against them at Old Trafford.

This. The fact that it's happened aginst Man United, at old trafford has given it far more scrutiny and attention than it deserves.
Van Persie's sending off at the Nou Camp two years ago was far, far, far more controversial and also completely changed the result but it didn't receive this kind of attention. 'These things happen in football' was the stance most pundits took.
