If yesterday proved anything, it is that we are very well matched with Real Madrid who are thought of as the best team in the world players wise. I guess even the rival fans would admit that this Man Utd has the right to match the best teams in Europe.
Also, the Rooney story puts his future into perspective. You can't have your highest paid player on the bench for potentially the biggest game of the season and think it would not have any repercussions.
So in case Rooney leaves, what do you guys think should be out transfer strategy in the summer:
- I think all the Lewandowski rumors which i believed to be pure rubbish up until now have started to make sense. Maybe the writing is on the wall for Rooney, and SAF wants to replace him with Lewa.
- I also think that SAF's persue of Hazard and Lucas tells us that he is looking for a winger/wide attacker although i hope it is not at the expense of Nani. If that's the case maybe Sanchez is worth a punt. He is not having the best of times in Barca. Also, Rodriguez of Porto is an interesting one. I think that boy can reach very lofty hieghts if developed properly and Man Utd is one of the best places for that.
- Last, the age old question of a CM. Carrick is the first name on the team sheet deservedly and with his style of play he can very well be at the top of his game for atleast 3 more years. But i feel we need to replace Fletch, someone to ease the burden on Carrick. Maybe Strootman(although admittedly i have not seen much of him), even Schniederlin of Southampton would be a good call for a deputy CM and would not cost much.
I think we are very well sorted in defense. Vida/Rio can still play for atleast 2 more seasons and in Jones/Smalling/Evans we have some of the best defense prospects in England. Rafael will be our RB for atleast a decade and with Evra's age i hope Fabio can make that place his.
Thoughts?

I think after last night, starting Nani shows SAF really wants him to stay at the club. Particularly starting him over Kagawa who had a fine game against Norwich. Hope Luis signs a new contract soon

Sanchez is a good shout and I said a few weeks ago Lewandowski might be the one we are looking at if Rooney is to leave.
Sanchez
Lewandowski
New CM
That would be us sorted.
Keep Nani and we could potentially see this team -
Carrick New CM
Nani Kagawa Lewandowski
RVP

Nani is a peculiar case. I can see why SAF does not have 100% trust in him. Technically very few players can rival him int he whole league, and as far as beating a man with trickery is concerned i huess only Messi is better, but rest of his team mates can never trust his next move. Strikers are always in a dilemma weather to make the run or not, when will Nani pass/cross or will he shoot. I think Nani can be a very important player for the team but if he expects to start every match, it won't be possible.

To be honest if SAF has Lewa in mind, then well done to him. Lewa is one of the best ball playing strikers in the world, he can hold the ball very well and his link up play is exceptional for a striker. A partnership of Lewa and RVP would be just awsome!!!

I disagree. Nani is a top player. he needs to play. he is creating a goal a game. what else do you want from him? unpredictability is what makes the top players top. Not one dimension easy to mark players. we need him and yesterday showed he play on the left very well. he was mature. not shooting at every chance. clever passes. helping his fall back and making good runs. keep playing him i say! against chelsea young and nani should play!

Cleverley will be the mainstay of our team for the next few seasons. Impressed me last night.

We need a quality player who can play as a number 10 or a striker and score a ridiculous amount of goals

I think that will be Kagawa next season.

Top class midfielder. (Bender?)
Solid, 20-a-season striker. (Lewnadowski?)
Left winger. (Bale, James, Ronaldo?)
