on the bench thing too much?
He was replaced by Welbeck as the 2nd striker purely for the fact that Welbeck is much quicker and more athletic than Rooney is and his job was to close down Alonso to cut off the supply to the front line. Welbeck is much more suitable for this job and did it amazingly. It's not every week that we are playing teams that we have do a job on so many players in the same game.
Are people reading in to the whole Rooney

Rooney has been garbage of late other than the 2nd half of the game against Norwich. 1st half he was rotten.

I personally think the signing of RVP was partly a message to Rooney. Your no longer undroppable, time to up your game He hasnt and hes been dropped for a big game. That will sting. The outcome could go 2 ways, he could get back to his best or sulk and move in the summer.

Look at it this way. Welbeck was always going to start. As was Nani as he is capable of doing thing few others can and has pace to add. Which leaves one of either Giggs/Rooney. Did you really thing he was going to start with Rvp, Rooney, Nani and Welbeck at the same time?

Why not? They all work hard, are capable and pacy. Still don't see why giggs had to start.

there was a time when it was Rooney 'who did jobs for Fergie' in the big games.
Its got all the hallmarks of a Fergie boot up the ar5e. Like when he dropped Beckham. They have had words.

I think that the message would have looked differently if we had won the game, like we can do it without Rooney. It reminds me of when we last played Madrid and Beckham was dropped to the bench. He then came on and almost won the tie single-handedly. He then was sold a couple of months later.
