There's an article on the BBC website today, and following on from several DET articles defending Clough against fan criticism, this one reads to me like Clough is feeling the pressure and maybe even feeling sorry for himself.

this week has seen some 'lay off Clough' type propaganda from in particular, Steve Nicholson of the DET. Although the press are allowed freedom to write whatever they choose, it does seem that there's been a call for support from the club and Nigel, to the local press.
I'd happily accept a hundred positive articles in the press, if there was just one with the bravery and honesty to criticise. If the press was a fair reflection on what Derby fans feel, then there would be certainly some sort of report that Nigel IS doing a bad job, as that's what some fans think.
is there a hidden message

IWas, they could easily have pocketed the money from selling Shackell and Davies, but they invested it, and added to it.

They wouldn't dare of done that Mostyn.
The money from Hughes might be enough to keep our best players for another season but might not be enough to add strength too and deffo won't be enough to challenge for promotion.
There is no guarantee that any of the other Academy guys will make Championship level or even supply the continuous funds we will need to keep us competitive.

Just remember that the Academy team is hyped way beyond what they should be. That's down to GSE creating false expectations.

One thing that has stuck with me since the dogs were looking for a new manager is something that Gary Birtles said in a telephone interview, he said something like " I want the next manager of the dogs to be named Nigel, I don't care if it's Atkins or Clough............... NC has done a fantastic job at Derby on an ever decreasing budget........"
Just thought I'd share that with you

There's an old saying in Football and that is"if you stand still at football you move backwards" and this is is being proven right now at DCFC.
Never thought I'd say it but my interest in DCFC has all but dissipated right now, thanks a bunch GSE for ending a love affair of 40 odd years .. that is all.

GSE's only hope now is if the FFP really kicks in. Then and only then will they be looked at in a better light. Leicester and Forest's budget has far outweighed Derby's for a few years now. Their respective wage bills must be far and away bigger than Derby's. So where does each club stand?....is FFP for real?..is it just a smokescreen for GSE to hide behind?..As far as a relationship goes with fans only the FFP can save it.

Backo, seriously, don't you think these Business men owners have been looking at FFP rules for that long and had every top solicitor/accountants look for the loopholes.....it's a cosmetic excercise and one that if some clubs stick to they'll get a pat on the back and then go down only to be told well done...proper run club Just can't see FFP working in a fair way.

Pep...i agree with you. Surely the buisness men who takeover clubs have summat up their sleeves. What ill say to u is GSE have fed us FFP for best part of 2 to 3 years now. If it does not work then we all know what the crack is. It FFP is for real then i fear for Leicester more than yourselves. It aint supposed to far away now...so time will tell

Mostyn
The press reports or so-called propaganda are probably a response to the criticism from the stands, the phone-in and social websites such as this. As someone who has emailed a supportive comment which wasn't read out (I have been on the phone in a couple of years ago though), and then has to listen to xcensoredx G from Chad who has a negative text read out every week (I'm sure it's a running joke amongst the Sportscene staff), it works both ways.
I am sure Nicholson, & I know Bloomfield did from comments he made during commentaries, access these sites to gauge fan opinions.
The articles tried to delve into the deeper reasons, which are not always apparent to fans who see things in b&w and results.
How do you know that Steve Nicholson was not actually channelling some of Nigel Clough's own opinions/gripes in his article especially about not signing anyone in January, an oblique criticism of the board?
