Another case of two steps forward one step back. It really is frustrating after last week how none of the players looked like they could be bothered to be there. Rodgers got it wrong to play Allen over Lucas but even so there is no excuse for that sort of performance as not one player seemed to show any fight.
I know we are a work in progress but the way in which we lose always seems to hurt more lately. Lets just hope we've got the bad performance out of the way with.
Awful

Only luck got us the points against Spurs. I sometimes think, having seen Being Liverpool, that Brendan might send them out too hyped up and therefore we start badly. Glen Johnson seems to have dialled out of the team talks and was only marginally better than his zombie-like performance last week. Joe Allen obviously has a sore shoulder. Coutinho put in an "away game" performance. Sturridge played his worst game and can be frustrating. Suarez similarly was off form. Skrtel was at fault for their first.
All Southampton did today was play a disciplined harrying good passing performance and it was enough to completely knock us out of our stride. This is worrying and I wonder where our passing game has gone? If getting the ball quickly up to Suarez and Sturridge fails because the opposition close our midfielders down, we must have a plan B that involves keeping the ball to allow us to build.

As I tried to say but was unfairly deleted. Liverpool supporters are split between two camps - The realists who can see exactly where you are at the moment - one of many teams from the middle of the table pushing for 5th and 6th - and the delluded who think you are going to finish top 4 every time you win a game.
The win against Spurs was great for you but it was just one game, one win, and if truth be told, Spurs should have won.
The reality is that your defence is not good enough, Downing, despite his goal last week, was poor and players like Henderson who may become good squad players for Liverpool do not offer you that something special you need in those positions.
What you do have is obviously Suarez who is an excellent player and Coutinho looks a great addition although not the 'New Messi' many from Liverpool have been proclaiming.
The bottom line is that since the middle part of Benitez' reign, your transfer policy in general has been really poor and Rodgers just does not have the finances or the players he needs. I also think that a couple of his signings are a little 'light'. Joe Allen is a good ball mover but needs a lot of space and time to be effective. He does however have bags of technique. Sturridge is selfish but again ladened with talent - but will he be consistant enough for you? He seems to disappear far too often. Borini is young but I think lightwieght for the premier league too. He though has the talent to prove me wrong.
