I'm not good at thinking of article titles

I foresaw this day would come, I knew we would lose and I knew we would underperform.* How did I know this? Well there are a list of factors which individually may not have lead to a defeat however collectively it was inevitable.

-Reina injured (thought he would start though not fully fit)
-Sturridge injured
-Gerrard whilst in form is getting tired now
-Three consecutive winning streak: I felt this would impact us as we would be overly confident going into the game and our concentration might be off
-Southampton at St. Marys: They are a good passing side and have two or three quality players. Furthermore they have been very solid at home this season and secured a good points haul from the teams in the top ten

I'm not too worried to be honest. Overall we are on an upwards trajectary and playing very good football at times. Today we looked lethargic and disconnected, and I partially blame Rogers' team selection. Fair enough resting Lucas but an injured Allen should not have played in his place, especially in a position he has proven to be shakey in; Henderson should have replaced Lucas if needs be.I also feel Sturridge should have been rested as he isn't fully fit and lacks sharpness. I'd like to have seen Suarez played alone with Coutinho running off him.

5th is still a possibility, but if we don't get it then I'm not too worried. I believe the right players will come to us with or without the lure of European football if they can see where our project is heading. I think we'll come back much stronger, consistent and cohesive next year when the players get a good pre-season behind them and have played together a lot. We could make an assault on the top four then depending on how other teams fair, baring in mind they will not stand still and will be strengthening too. Let's see how the next eight games pan out.

*For anyone doubting me check my predictions in Didi's league.

I'm not so worried about the loss but more the way in which we lost. It just really annoys me when players show little to no fight like the stoke and villa game. Those games and today hurt the most imo.

I do know what you mean. Like I say I think it's a case of overconfience and underestimating the opponent. If I recall correctly they all came off the back of good wins and we seemed lazy and disinterested in the defeats. It is an issue which needs addressing however it is no cause for panic by any means.

I don't buy this overconfident argument at all.

We don't get complacent because we win a couple of games.

We lose games because our squad is not strong enough, not because we underrate the opposition.

Man United are running away with the league, and their top appearance maker in the Prem this season has played 27 games.

They only have 5 outfield players who have played more than 20 games.

We have 4 players with more appearances than Evra.

That is our problem, lack of depth.

We can't rotate our best players like the other teams can so they get physically and mentally tired.

Until our squad has proper depth, so the likes of Gerrard, Lucas, Agger and Suarez can be rotated occasionally, we will continue to struggle to put winning runs together.

Depth or no depth, we have players who are riding the gravy train at times and thats what needs to change.

We need players who will walk through a brick wall for the club to quote the late great Shankly.

I didn't see this happening. I though we would take them apart. We didn't. End of. Time for the next game. Bring it on. jimmyTheRed
