Always looking to criticise..

With some of the negativity on this board you'd think we'd just gifted the title to City again.

Ok, we weren't fantastic. We didn't create much and what we did create was met with woeful finishing. However, we got the job done early in the game and didn't need to unnecessarily expend energy in a game in which we never looked in danger of dropping points.

We won... who cares that it wasn't the best display ever? It isn't the end of the world; we did make half a dozen changes and fielded what was essentially our second string fullbacks, wingers and centre midfield.

I guess last week was the week to criticise Welbeck off the back of his excellent performances against Madrid, and this week is going to be criticising the team for merely getting the job done (and going 15 points clear).

Quit crying.

I think you missed the point, we were far from the equivalent of the harlem globetrotters today (but that's irrelevant).

However, to suggest that a record breaking team would have finished mid-table any other season.. come on. Are you serious? A team that outplayed Real Madrid? We have changed the way we play. We are far less reckess and we are more patient in possession. I would argue that we are as efficient now as we have ever been. Just because our new style isn't as aesthetically pleasing as Barca or 99' United doesn't mean we are average.

We haven't conceded in over 900 league minutes or something silly. We are anything but average. Did it occur to you that the league as a whole might be stronger?

********************************

If the whole league is stronger, then the league should be tighter. Arsenal is at its worst, Man city is a team managed by a woeful manager, chelsea too. Liverpool, spurs.

Everybody knows what they can see. This team cannot come close to being compared with any of our previous great teams. No one is going to write about this team as one to copy and rightly so. We are the least worst team around. This team has not shown drive or urgency all year. A good half here and there thats all. I cannot believe the memories are so short as to forget what was and should be the bare minimum accepted at United. I have never seen us play this un-inspired in my years of watching.

The results are not matching our performances or expectations. We play all season like this and expect to step up when its needed. But our mindset is changing. The team is becoming so lax that when they score a goal, they are more than happy to sit back. 7oth minute and the team gets a nose bleed from crossing the centre line. This is now our nature. Can you imagine we had to result to time wasting against reading at home. Is this clicking in your heads or is it all about the glory, raising the trophy and claiming superiority.

Open your eyes. This is not the united we fell in love with. This is a united that has lost its way.

It's called a team in transition. Players like Smalliing, Welbeck, Cleverley, de Gea, Jones, Buttner, Young, Hernandez and even RVP aren't exactly United veterans.

It takes a while to build a great side yet you feel the need to judge us and make Sir Alex out to be some clueless dolt of a manager. Next season we'll be a better side because the younger players will be more experienced, RVP will know his teammates better, Kagawa will be tougher and we'll hopefully have our defence fit for more than half a season.

Add to that having a new pitch and the future is bright. Just rejoice in the fact that our transitional side are about to win the league by a record margin.

What does that even mean?

The United I fell in love with was a team that was lucky to get a good cup run! We would flatter to deceive in the league. I remember, 1985 I think it was, we won the first 10 league games. Our 11th was against Luton Town. We drew 1-1. I think we ended the season in 4th. That was as good as it got back then.

I'll take scrappy 1-0's every day of the week. I'll take 'average' football week in week out. 15 points clear with 9 to play! I love it!! Because I remember the 70's and 80's!

I think redastomatoes is the eptiome of a fan spoilt by success.

God help you if we ever return to the dark days of the 70s and 80s after SAF leaves.

Then again, by your implication, if SAF has lost his way things can only get better after he leaves, right?

I think this new - and young - team has shown some very exciting glimpses of the team that they might become in the past couple of seasons. A team in transition, seeded with youngsters still learning the game, is never going to win every game 4-0. However, there have been times over the past 2 years where it has clicked into place and we have demolished teams. This team went toe-to-toe with arguably the 2nd best team on the planet and were extremely unlucky not to come out on top.

I don't think that you are doing justice to our league by saying that we're the best of an average lot. I think our league has improved massively in terms of overall quality. As it stands, right down to Swansea in 9th, any of the top 9 teams could beat any of the others at home and it wouldn't be considered an upset! One poor season in Europe for the English sides doesn't make our league rubbish. To be honest, if United hadn't been shafted by the ref, we would have been finalists in my opinion. City had a difficult group that will probably prove to have contained 2 of the semi-finalists. Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs are all into the last 8 of the europa league. Swansea won a domestic cup competition and will definitely not shame themselves in the europa league next season.

The reason that we are so far ahead, is because we are enjoying a record breaking season and we have an absolutely fantastic squad. Whinge all you want about our style, but football has long since died as a best 11 game; it's all about the overall quality of a squad now. On paper, City should walk this league. However, look past their best 12 or 13 players and they are very average. Mancini is a good young manager with an incredible record, a few poor judgements don't change that.
