Champagne, I'm hoping for it too. Like u said Punk has the creative nouse to carry such a victory without it seeming forced or contrived.

The E have an opportunity to create a super heel not seen since Bret in the Canadian stampede days.

Imagine if Punk beats Taker, Orton turns heel and causes the Rock to lose the belt then drags Cena onto an unconsious Rock b4 walking out to huge boos, and Mark Henry batters Ryback...that would be worth the ppv money alone.

Maybe i was wrong, i guess WWE have got people buying into Punk's credability. Unbelieveable.

First of all, a single creative decision ushering in a new era in todays WWE as things stand can't happen because the WWE have no follow through on anything - and the CM Punk character is the epitome of that. The E era is catagorised by moments rather than revolutions, the epic PPV rather than the epic year, the epic match rather than the epic storyline. If Punk was to beat Taker, you'd great a momentous moment up there with MITB11, WM24 (Flair's retirement), NM07 (that emotional rollercoaster of a PPV), etc... you certainly wouldn't get a revolution out of it. Luckily, we'll be spared the torture of watching this missed opportunity transpire before our eyes as Punk's NOT ending the streak.

Going into this WM, CM Punk should have been by far and away the companies biggest draw - the cross demographic megastar that had audiences unified in their admiration behind him aswell as the business. Instead we have another faceless weasel heel playing the generic juvenile pr!ck - nothing to distinguish him from Christian's countless runs in this shell, Mr Kennedy's defiant ranting, Edge's opportunistic nature, etc... the guy on the screen today is nothing but a bad impersonation of the star he could've become, and beating Undertaker will act as just as much of a cancer to him as holding the WWE Title did. And that's just from his prospective, let alone one of WWE most prestigious accolades being tossed away over a pipe dream.

Something struck me a couple of days ago while i was thinking about the corporate heel HHH should be today. In this era where breaking keyfabe is just as much of a tool as a fictional story arc, imagine a heel faction comprised of HHH, Cena & Orton!!!

They run the show off camera, why not run the show on camera?

Orton heel turn...yes please. I was actually cringeing listening to him on Smackdown last night.

Smackdown was better than Raw. Shame

I hear ! But unlike Christiana Er al, punk has that extra something about him. He has that era defining swagger. Yes the current pro duct is identified by its moments rather than periods, but eras shift and evolve. As a product the E like any business have to key into society and build around that!

Today we live in a society of cynicism and frustration 2 massive Punk traits. If folk can tune in and see a character that represents every negative aspect of real life society it validates their reasons for watchIng, i.e projection. i

As for the follow up, you have a point the back room is devoid of edgy characters, except the shield, and Orton.

So in essence the best characters are heels, which for me is a good place to start shaping a new era, an era of great heels! As an audience we dnt want to see superman Cena types, hell even Ryback is a weak face! Why u think so many ppl want Henry to win? The E are sat on a fantastic platform.

Big Show, Orton, Sheamus v Shield at Wrestlemania

Orton betrayal on Sheamus

Shield win

Orton alignment with Shield and/or feud with Sheamus.

I completely agree with the prinicple point you're making, couldn't disagree more with your estimations on the effects an Undertaker job to CM Punk will psychologically have on the fanbase.

The on-screen character Punk projects today is very sneaky, it's presentation hides from us the true generic nature of it's substance. If Phil Brooks wasn't such a charismatic speaker it would get exposed immediately. I'm sure the only reason it alienates me is because i've developed a sensitivity to WWE's p!ss poor interpretation of the 'weasel heel', and the longer he held the title the more reinforcement the gimmick got to exist, almost like a virus causing a dependency in it's host. And all beating Taker will do is give the CM Punk character more justification to continue existing as is.

The CM Punk character of 2011 is everything you described, a fantastic projection of the general populous's cynicism in it's own society. Let that CM Punk defeat Undertaker all day long....... NOT this one
