Interesting slant on pre-season after comments in every paragraph prior...

'...Despite all these dramas, I disagree with those who say this has been the worst, or most depressing pre-season in living memory. The summers of 2003, 2004 and 2007 were far worse – in the former we lost every game and with overseas trialists, and we were starting the other two after relegations and had barely an XI of contracted players let alone a squad'.
