Day out prices

Interesting article at the BBC about the comparative costs of a day out at matches at each of the league clubs, with 'league tables' of prices for each division. The totals are arrived at by adding a pie, cup of tea and programme to the cheapest adult seat price.

City are a respectable eighth cheapest (or 17th most expensive, if you prefer to read in the other direction) in the Championship, at £27.40. I was quite shocked to see how much more West Ham expect their fans to pay for what the bookies' odds suggest will be a very similar experience in terms of team quality: £40.30.

This is, as you'd expect, mostly determined by cheapest adult ticket, which in the case of the Irons is apparently £32 (compared to our £20). This means the minimum cost of getting into Upton Park is still higher than at 16 Premiership grounds, including Old Trafford.

There's lots to pick over in the various tables, but I would draw attention to the BBC forgetting to put an asterisk by the Coventry price. At £29.60, they appear to be a bit pricier than Leicester, but I think it's unfair not to have a footnote that at the KP ground entry only buys you a seat, while at the Ricoh the home fan gets the whole row to himself.

I also fear that this season the person who is going to sit next to me is not as bad as the one last season - Who told me not to lean forward as it ruined his view.

No change at the Boleyn then. I went to the last meeting between ourselves and 'The Irons' in 2005 when we were lucky to escape with a point in a 2-2 draw. It was a midweek match and I was astonished to see they were charging £32 to gain entry to the North Bank.

Surely the yellow snow falls from genital ice, not lice?
