Got in an argument with a Chelsea mate the other day about who was the better player.
I said Bergkamp because of his sublime vision, ability to find space and passing abilities. However, I do feel that these two are the most talented players we have even seen at Arsenal Football club.
He claimed that because most of Henry's goals weren't directly assisted by Bergkamp he was a better player.
Settle this for me please.
Peace,
Couchy
Henry vs Bergkamp?

Not only are you underrating
Bergkamp by claiming they're
incomparable but Bergkamp
closer to RVP? The latter's not
half the player.
If anything I'd say Bergkamp's
not far of Zidane.
--------
Bergkamp's level is closer to RVP than it is to Zidane. I rate Bergkamp highly but a bit like United fans with Cantona, we overrate him by claiming he's on Henry's level or better.

Technically they were pretty similar. Obviously Zizou's achieved more in his career.
Still amazed at the amount of idiots putting Bergkamp down on here.

Dubbed you never even seen Beegkamp or Zidane other than YouTube clips.
I can tell you from watching both regularly that Zidane was possibly the best ever until I saw Messi. Bergkamp was though top 3 all time PL talents.

Fyi I've seen all these guys from watching full games, albeit not live.
Makes no difference.

There are similarities between Zidane and Bergkamp, that kind of sublime touch and effortless genius. I just think Zidane was on another level, one that very few have reached.

He was on another level as he's performed when it mattered, winning trophies singlehandedly for his teams. A big game player. Obviously his talent was unmatched too. But guys like Ronaldinho and Bergkamp come close technically.

I don't think it's a case of him being out down, more a case of people trying to properly define his level. He wasn't on Zidane's stratosphere, so let's get that one chalked off for a start.
He was more uniquely creative and technically proficient than Henry was, but I just don't see in what regard he was better than Henry. He had 1-2 really stand out seasons for us as a player, generally however, his brilliance, although often other worldly, was sporadic and lacking in sustained consistency.
Henry, at Arsenal, from the moment he scored that goal at the Dell was ripping chunks out of defences week-in and week-out in a variety of ways and, all the time he was doing so, he was evolving into a different kind of forward each step of the way, using his athleticism and his technical proficiency to an effect this league has never seen.
It isn't a slight to say Bergkamp wasn't as good as Henry, because it he wasn't. Nobody was and nobody has been since.

Yernited fans would have bring up the 'Ronaldo is better' argument. But that's besides the point.

And they'd be embarrassingly mistaken. Ronaldo is and probably will go down as the best to have played in the league, but Henry is the best performer the league has seen. And the gap between he at 1 and whoever you put at 2 is far bigger than the gap between whoever the number 2 is and whomever makes 3.
Like you say, though, it's really beside the point.
