The numbers don't look good for United

Paisley won 3 in 9 years
Guardiola won 2 in 3 years
Mourinho won 2 in... i think 6 years with 2 different clubs

Fergie has won 2 in a 25 year tenure at United

Greatest manager they say.... naaah just longest serving.

Not to mention the fact that he is manager of a club that is commercially the richest in the world with Real Madrid.

and to think, a john terry pen away from being 1 in 25.

domestically, Fergie has done wonders but lets not kid ourselves, the man just doesn't have the magic when it comes to old big ears.

Fergie has underachieved in Europe compared with his domestic success. The disparity between his domestic and European success is probably the greatest of any manager.

The only explanation I can see is it's a lot harder for Fergie to influence refs and officials for European games since he doesn't get to undermine them every week. Aside from having good players (which all CL finalists do), this is the biggest component of his management.

Wenger didn't see this post

The answer is referees. On the European stage there are no Howard Webbs or Mike Deans to bail Fergie out. So his team gets outclassed.

Oh dear, it seems the united fans are having to add charity shields to the trophy count just to take over us.

Liverpool had finals against those European superpowers Borussia Moenchengladbach, Bruges and Roma. SAF would have settled for that.

Liverpool won in the late 70's/early 80s, which wasn't a stong period for Spanish, Italian, Dutch or German football. They only had to play the Champions of each country in a knockout format which could have seen your main rivals draw each other at an early stage.

SAF would have settled for that.

naah, i'm sure he's happy being seeded in a group stage and thus avoid great teams until semi finals.

Kaboom !

Over the past few years we've improved in Europe. Fergie has learned how to do it, unfortunately this period coincided with Barcelona's dominance.

ANY other team and we'd've won last night, and in 2009 and don't try and convince yourself otherwise

It doesnt matter who you played in what period.

You play the best teams available. If your in the final your one of the best and playing against the other best.

The teams that Liverpool, Forest, Villa and Celtic played may be rubbish now....But they wernt when we played them.

SAF is not and never will be 'the greatest'
