EPL Tournament Review & Awards

So the EPL tournament has concluded and as usual it was a great tournament with plenty of shocks, perhaps even more than usual!

And we begin in Group A consisting of Tyke, Comu, May and the newcomer Sideshow. I had tipped myself and Comu to go through in this group, how wrong I was! I anticipated a good match against Sideshow and that it was, however Sideshow took the spoils 2 – 1 with a last min winner, setting the tone for his tournament. This was followed up by an edgy 1 – 0 loss to Comu and then to top it off my worst ever tournament defeat 7 – 2 loss to May, utter humiliation. So with Tyke out Comu would surely not suffer the same fate with Man City? Oh but he did. Despite defeating Tyke he was beaten 3 – 1 by both May and Sideshow, this resulted in both these players progressing and May asserting himself over Sideshow with a 3- 2 win. So with this group completely turned upside down from the predictions, May and Sideshow go to the knock-outs, whilst Comu suffered his first group stage exit.

Off to Group B which contained tournament favourite Kent with Manchester United, also Oscar, Pope and Junior. Kent did pretty much what was expected beating both Junior and Pope with ease the latter 6 – 1, the former 3 – 0. However he did drop surprising points to Oscar in a 2 – 2 draw. Then in typical Oscar style he grinded two 1 -0 wins against Junior and Pope to secure his shock progression. As for Junior and Pope, they played an entertaining 3 – 2 match with Pope taking the spoils. Disappointing tournaments for both really, Pope in his second tournament should’ve pushed on and qualified and well Junior decided to retire after this tournament, hope he changes his mind and fights on.

Group C was an interesting group the two most successful players in current champion Voom and the fading SpursBoy, throw in Henry and Terry into the mix and that is what I call a group. For the group of death SpursBoy made it look easy winning every match, he dispatched Terry 1 – 0, hammered Henry 4 – 0 and beat current champ Voom 2 – 1, job done! As for the rest not so easy, Voom drew with Terry 0 – 0 and then had to dig deep to beat Henry 2 – 1 with a last min winner. This was enough to see him get through with Terry and Henry drawing 1 – 1 Henry finishing a disappointing rock bottom whilst Terry remains as usual just missing out.

The final Group D consisted of last tournaments runner-up Jag, Ludy, RVPM and 1man. No clear favourite in this group, but Jag grabbed his opportunity of a repeat performance of last tournament. Edging passed RVPM 2 – 1 and then getting rid of 1man 2 – 0, his 1 – 1 draw with Ludy saw him take his place at the top of the group. Second place however was still up for grabs, but not for long for poor 1man! RVPM and Ludy both beat him 3 – 0 and 1 – 0 respectively, leaving their match the decider. What ended in 2 – 2 saw Ludy secure a second place spot with five points to RVPM’s 4. So Ludy secures his second official tournament progression whilst RVPM can be happy enough with his efforts and 1man needs to show a bit more to be able to compete.
