Controversial...

Ok... This may not go down well but it was a genuine conversation that was taking place in the pub last night...

Today's news of Green resigning is not surprising. Nor should be the news that more pain is coming for the Rangers fans.

The question is, was David Murray good for Rangers and for Scottish football?

Under Marlborough and Holmes Rangers were a decent team in a competitive league. Aberdeen, hearts, utd and Celtic all were in the mix and no single monopoly existed.

Murray changed the face of Scottish football spending money unheard of in our game to bring players to the club in a quest for glory. That spending forced others who wanted to be challengers to spend or cut. Celtic were the only team that went for the challenge but in the early days even we couldn't match that spending.

Then the realisation of that kicked in when rangers knew this spending was unsustainable and the banks started to take control meaning cost cutting started and we are where we are now...

So... Was the strategy of short term gain at all costs to the game as we know it worth it?

It was only Rangers and Celtic who voted against SPL TV because they would get more cash from the SKY deal. SPL TV money would have been more evenly spread between the teams.
Without the OF votes, the plans never got off the ground.

This was after you knocked back the SKY deal.

SPL TV deal was better for the smaller clubs. Guess that's why they wanted it.
Don't think anyone reckoned on the OF having a hissy-fit and scuppering the whole idea, though.

yeah as SPL tv would have woked.

It would have a slight chance now, as there is little money. There's no way it would have then. As ever you lot took the stupid option like the last setanta deal.
