Liverpool left it late but claimed a point at home to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon in a match filled with controversy.
The first half of the game was rather dull, with neither team stamping their authority on the match. But on 26 minutes, Chelsea took the lead when Juan Mata's corner was headed in by Oscar.
Liverpool brought on Daniel Sturridge for Philippe Coutinho at half time and the game was immediately transformed with Sturridge getting heavily involved.
Firstly he sent a ball across the goal that Steven Gerrard connected with, but was saved by Petr Cech. Moments later Sturridge then struck the outside of the far post with a great effort. But finally the goal came on 52 minutes.
Jose Enrique hit the ball forward and Stewart Downing hooked it out of the air for Luis Suarez, and he sent in a deep cross for Sturridge to tap in.
But from here, things went wrong for Liverpool and especially Suarez. Firstly, just minutes after the equalising goal, Suarez handballed in the Liverpool area and conceded a penalty as well as receiving a yellow card. Eden Hazard stepped up and put Chelsea in front by slotting it into the bottom left corner.
But the real madness occurred shortly afterwards in the opposite penalty area. Liverpool were on the attack and Suarez tangled with Branislav Ivanovic, and appeared to sink his teeth into the Serb's arm, not the first time he has committed such an offence. It went unnoticed by the referee but the Uruguayan can certainly expect retrospective action.
Liverpool were having a real go at Chelsea and efforts by Jonjo Shelvey, Daniel Agger and Jordan Henderson did not bring any results. But in the seventh minute of injury time, Sturridge crossed the ball in and Suarez headed it in from close range for a dramatic finish to the game.
The result leaves Liverpool five points behind neighbours Everton, and a distant 10 points off European qualification places.
