We wanted three points and didn't get them. We needed three points and didn't get them. But, in the modern game today, where we have these high earners, who have owners, who throw big money at them and in return, the fans get half hearted performances. One thing that our team has done constantly this season, regardless of the result is show fight, heart and desire.
We need to look at it from this perspective, if we get the results required v Norwich and Sunderland, then this game and result will be irrelevant. Those are the games that matter most.
Manchester United, just had too much for us in the first half, with the amount of pressure they were creating, they would've caused problems for a lot of teams. The second half, we deserved at least a goal, if we play like that in the coming games then we'll win games, we passed the ball, so well, created chances, but in truth need to do it when it matters most. I.e, when we play teams around us.
We lost, but I'm still proud. When fans watch the players try and try and try. Work their socks off. They cannot moan much. We need to look forward now. The goal difference has taken a hit, but the Wigan game at the end of the season is just getting bigger and bigger. I have a feeling it'll be a case of win and we stay up, but lose or draw and we go down.
We Showed Heart. That Is All That Matters.

Adot, Bennett is rubbish, but agree with everything else you have said.

First time commenting on this board. Just proud the lads didn't cave in the second half. That fighting spirit may (just!) see us over the line.

Agree with you and great to have you here mate. The more the Villa fans, the better.

Fingers crossed we stay up. However, PL really has to go at the end of the season. His signings have been absolutely shocking (except Benteke, possibly Lowton too) and we are now a joke to every other club in the league. This club used to have pride, it used to be a genuine threat to the top teams (even before O'Neill), it used to have at the very least a strong spine. What we have now is a woeful central midfield, a terribly leaky defence who don't know what on earth they're doing, and an over-reliance on a striker who it seems doesn't want to be here next season (and who can blame him given the alarming lack of talent in the squad). Without Benteke this season we would be below QPR and that is reason enough for the manager to be waved goodbye. It does us no good changing managers all the time, I understand, but Lambert is the worst manager I've known us to have. McLeish was bad, but this guy is even worse.
If we stick with him, we'll see yet more average dross come in this summer and another battle next season. Something seriously needs to be done so that the club is comfortably midtable next season.

Villa stay up, Lambert will stay..
My reasoning, well..He has brought in alot of young players mentioned above, Lowton, Bennett, Westwood are 3 young lads doing there very best for the club, with a full season behind them do you not think they will be better for it next season?
Coming from the Championship they are going to be caught out, but this can only stand them in good stead. Every player has to start somwhere, so give theboys a break..
Yes they are never going to be world beaters but they are what 20/21 ish they CAN only get better!!
Lambert needs to invest in a couple of more experienced players, a CB and a CM/DM, heard Flamini being touted around and he imo would be a great signing, prob not get him but he is the kinda player Lambert needs to sign
Anyway Villa are flaunting with relegation would you not rather it was playing Lambert football rather than Big Ecks? At least it llooks at times as if they can win under Lambert, was never confident at all under McCleish

agree there was no lack of effort and second half we had the better chances although United were coasting by then.
Hate to have a go at anyone but at times Bennett is a liability and for the rest of the games injuries allowing, Baker must go to Left Back and Clark back in the middle.
Thought also there was a suspicion about offside for two of United's goals, although then they would not have relaxed. The first goal Guzan has to take the blame as he should have come and got it.
Hey Ho it's not the end of the world, if only we could beat Sunderland and Norwich and Wigan lose their next two, but that won't happen sadly

Wigan might beat baggies, although it'll be difficult. Sours will be fighting for a Champions League place, and although Wigan might cause an upset, I reckon it's highly unlikely. I think the worst that can happen is that Wigan and us are level after the next two games, but it's more likely we'll be a minimum of 4 points ahead.
This "Lambert is useless and worse than McLeish" thing is pathetic. Over the last 10 matches we have gained 14 points and scored 17 goals, with a goal difference of -1. Over the equivalent 10 matches last year we had gained 8 points and scored 6 goals, with a goal difference of -9. That says it all. Under Lambert we are going forwards; under McLeish we were going fast backwards.

McParland, ever the optimist I see!
I kind of agree and disagree with you. McLeish was useless (and still is). Solid player in his day, blah blah blah but could not manage a raffle.
Lambert, however, is just plain stubborn. If we go down, it will not be because of his incompetence, more likely it will be because of his stubborn insistence on picking, virtually, the same team week in week out. The team he chooses and has assembled lacks one vital ingredient, experience (and in some cases i.e Bennett, ability).
Comparing a comparitively small section of a season (10 games) between Lambert and McLeish does not paint a full picture either. McLeish was useless, I reiterate, but at least we weren't so deeply in the relegation battle. Granted, Lambert has us trying to play football the correct way, but at the moment, I would quite happily swap passing and movement for a few decent results and a mid table finish.
On another note, how sad that most Villa fans are now striving for a mid table finish, when a few years ago a CL spot was the Holy Grail.

I think Villa have found some form just at the right time, especially crucial wins over QPR, Stoke, Reading & West Ham; and you were either unlucky not to get a point against Liverpool & Man City.
Against United, it was almost going to be an uphill task, and after watching the first half I was expecting a 6 or 7 nilling. But to your credit, you bossed the 2nd half, and were very unlucky not to have got at least one goal, maybe even two.
But now you've got to keep that belief going into the next 2 or 3 games. The players certainly showed they can play well under pressure, but what might be their undoing is complacency, especially against the likes of Sunderland & Norwich.
I guess it depends on what kind of team steps onto the pitch - a Villa of determination, skill & substance; or a Villa lacking ideas, confidence & hunger. But I personally feel Villa will stay up with points to spare. But my only other concern for your club next season is if you can hang on to the likes of Benteke & Weimann? Lose those guys without decent replacements, and I can see another nightmare season on the horizon for you.
Anyway, best of luck, from a Bluenose
