Reading top scorer Adam Le Fondre is unsure whether he will be at the club next season..............................................

McDermott is clearly a fan having brought him to Reading and was part of his plans while there
Only 26, so great age should defintely be considered a target for the summer
Le Fondre??

Some football fans are so fickle!
Morison isn't good enough after a handfull of games whilst unfit in an underperforming side.
I remember when ross was a no good shocking signing after his first season, second season top scorer.
Beginning of this season Varney was (almost unanimously) nowhere near champ quality, and I even seen him touted as player of the season by someone on here the other day.
There are many variables as to why players don't perform and a lot of the time it's not down to quality

LIW yeah I know what you are saying, could quite easily be that and would explain why he just hasnt performed nearly as well as he can.
Because he has been a very good player at this level.
I do hope if that is the case given more time he will settle then. Because if he does and gets back to how he was then it will have been a great transfer deal for us.
Just an added note, I like that you are happy to say its just a feeling rather than stating it as fact! It gets to me when people do that on here when really it is just an assumption! On this occasion I do agree though

I'm not convinced by the clamour for Beckford. Did well for us in L1, but has hardly ripped the CCC apart since joining Uddersfield.
From what i remember for every bit of smart finishing, i saw just as many examples of petulance, sulking and lack of effort.
Rose tinted glasses spring to mind. .........
The above being said, without knowing what our spending ability will be, perhaps he may be a viable option/gamble if thats what we can afford.
I suspect we'll sign someone none of us thought of ......

Beckford didn't have Snodgrass or Gradel in his first full season and still scored plenty of goals.... He did have Howson and Kilkenny though.
Strikers don't need world beaters to supply them, but a couple of half decent central midfielders with just a little bit of vision and passing ability always helps!
I'm sure if we adapted our midfield style Beckford could still score goals + his pace would change the way the opposition defend against us completely, since Gradel left its been far too easy and predictable for them.

McDermotts first priotity should be to take on some scouts that can actually do their job.
Look at the lower leagues, Scotland, Europe.
The talent must be out there. Just look for it

Some cracking players north of the border at the moment....Mackay-Steven, Griffiths & Russell to name a few

I don't want us to change our play just so beckford might play well. I'd prefer us sign a different striker. I've touted Tom pope and paddy madden on these boards before, they're both good players.
Also don't think our scouting team needs too many additions, got to remember mcD is a former scout so will hopefully get them working

Anyone who thinks Varney should be player of the season needs medical intervention
I want to see McDermott build gradually for the long term but equally I want to see all the dross moved out of ER as soon as possible.

Very good shouts there, although they might be a tad expensive for us, we should take a good look at the League of Ireland this season too, there's a lot of promising young players there this season.
When you consider the likes of James McClean, Shane Long and Seamus Coleman all cost no more than a couple hundred thousand, Ireland is a great place to look for a cash strapped club like us.
