Blues team photo

I don't know how many 606ers have seen the team photo in today's Birmingham Mail.

I must admit the it left me wondering if the Carling Cup final was all a dream.

No Foster, Jiranek, Johnson, Larrson, Ferguson, Bowyer, Gardner or Martins;

Well, I know all about the exodus of players, so nothing surprising there, but where the hell is the Carling Cup trophy?

Carson? CARSON!!!!!

OK, sorry to bother you. Enjoy the rest of your life.

And I use the word 'life' very loosely.

I'm just outside Guadalajara, where it's perfectly safe. Touch wood.

I did meet someone who'd been working in Juarez though. She was surprisingly … alive.

What made me laugh was that a few of the players had been super-imposed onto the picture after it was done.

First Spector who didn't join until Tuesday is on the picture.

Then the best was Jack Butland, correct me if I am wrong but he is in Columbia at the moment, long way to fly back just for the team picture?

I also I didn't think Zigic was there for the opening traing session on Monday but I could be wrong about that one?

Den.....

BLUES players posed proudly for their annual team photo ahead of the new season.

But fans noticed a glaring omission in the snap – the Carling Cup. It was the first trophy of note the club had won since 1963.

Manager Alex McLeish has since left the club to take over at Villa following the 2-1 victory against Arsenal in February and many of the winning team moved on after last season’s relegation.

But thousands of fans have stayed loyal and feared the club had forgotten the glory.

But a Birmingham City spokesman told the Mail: “It was a very tough decision to decide whether to have the trophy as part of the photocall or not.

“The Carling Cup is, and always has been, a treasured item at the club since that day in February.

“In fact just this week, it has been given a new home with pride of place in a new trophy cabinet in the Kop reception. However, with a new manager and an evolving squad, it was deemed not appropriate to have the trophy in the photocall,” he added.

I think that's fair enough.

Think how many players in that photo had nothing to do with the Carling Cup victory. It would have been a tad embarrassing.

There are plenty of pictures of the old squad with the Carling Cup.

Another example of our doom & gloomers whinging about anything and evertything.
