2013/14 Expectations

Hi guys,

My first article on this site. Recognise some of your names from the old BBC606 days, I was Navarro20 on there but not expecting you to remember me! Miss the old Plough and sheesh arguments/debates.

Thought I'd ask what you guys are expecting for the next season? What we are hoping for is obvious, too get out this god forsaken division. Personally think it will be harder this year, some good teams coming down and teams with funds likely to improve.

Automatics would be brilliant but it would be nice for us to have some joy in the play-offs for once.

Also - interesting to see Charlie MacDonald has already been released by Leyton Orient.

Welcome back LoughDon - good to have more views - though not really Plough's - they really were primitive.

Really difficult to give much on expectations - the division will be harder - some good clubs will come down, and others currently in the division have made great progress.

Other key factor will be what the nucleus of our side it. We clearly have to make some changes - but can we attract the right talent, or are we going to try and rely on loanees.

Also what will be our management position - not worried about losing the assitant manager or our striker coach - but a change of manager would be more of a challenge.

I think Charlie is past his sell by date - though he does try hard.

It will be interesting to see if Pete sticks to his word that this season was the last he would spend money trying to win promotion.

If he does Robbo will have to get rid of a lot of the current squad to pay for any replacments and I guess keeping Bamford is out of the question.

I don't have any real expectations, but I would hope for at least a playoff place.

Welcome to JA606 LoughDon.

In regards to expectations I expect to see a change in the back room staff, better discipline, a few new faces and a better away record. I would also expect the arena to finally open and for us to be challenging for the play offs (I fear the autos are beyond us).

I haven't been on here for a while either so nice to see a different contributor to this site.

My optimism and hope for the season took its toll, and I couldn't sustain it into the final few games when the writign was on the wall - guess we all felt the same. Stevenage was good fun though.

Anyway - next season is anyone's guess - who would have thought Yeovil could do what they've done, so anything's possible.

(Uh oh. That hope and optimism seems to be creeping back in already. )

I am expecting it to be difficult, firstly there are three good teams coming down from the Championship, also we still have Swindon, Sheff Utd and whoever loses the playoff final.
That's without Preston and Coventry and whoever else.
I am expecting to lose Gleeson and perhaps Williams.
Unless we pay out for a striker it will be very difficult to make the playoffs, Izale is no good, and Lowe has done ok of late but he's getting on, Bamford should do well if we can keep him.
Winkie has either got to spend some money, or get a partner who has some money, because we cant rely on loan players to get us out of this division.
I dont understand why we cant get a backer like Bournemouth did as surely we are a sound investment with the stadium and ever growing population of the area.
We finished 8th this season a major disappointment, because the league was the easiest it had been for some time.
We must also curb our dreadful disciplinary record, which cost us no end of points.
On the plus side we will have Flanagan back who MUST start as first choice centre back, and Chico has now got more games under his belt, and we also have a few other promising youngsters.
Another minus point is that I am expecting a drop off in season ticket sales as last season we were tipped for auto promotion and optimism was high.
Cant see why we need Harford and Wright as they havent done anything.
We must also mix it up and not play pretty football all the time, there is no doubt in my mind that on our day we were the best team in the league, I am still mystified as to how Doncaster have been promoted.
