Countdown Thread #2

With the excitement of the new season now amongst us and Minty doing a fine Match Thread, is there any other business we can discuss in the Football World?

Joey Barton...........

Often criticised as being a bad boy off the pitch, but don't half put a shift in on the pitch. With all this tweeting about his current employers and the quotes he is using, is he a misunderstood genius or a finally grown up and realised he is a role model?

Carlos Tevez.......

Will he/wont he be leaving Man Citeh? I for one need to know this information as he could be the final cog in my season winning Dream Team. Is Manchester really that bad a place to live in? I grew up on Leeds Road and went to School in Deighton, so these guys really do have it easy!

David Sullivan.......

Now this guy is really minted and no doubt worked hard to make his millions, but WTF are those Jackets about that he is constantly wearing and being photgraphed in? I for one don't earn huge sums of money, but I would like to think if I had his cash I would certainly not be seen in anything like those things!

Anything else you want to discuss feel free to bring them up!

He's just not what you call encouraging. I remember the likes of Owen, Shearer and Rooney bursting on the scene. Despite them being young they took games by the scruff of the neck and could single-handedly make a vital difference with one moment of brilliance.

If Welbeck and Sturridge are the future of English strikers then we are in trouble, big trouble.

WTBA, we must look for different things in players because I rate Danny Sturridge very, very highly!

Inter, Germany have Jurgen Klinsmann to thank for the reforms made in their domestic game which have made them such a force again on the national scene. Great article, great bloke:

One player you have mentioned there though WTBA was too much, too young! Owen should have been ripping up defences for years, but what happened? Yes he got a contract at Man Utd, but can't get a sniff of the England Team!

Sturridge might have just proved (to me) that all he needs is games regularly! This was shown last season when he went to Bolton! Those Bolton fans will have expected the worst when they signed him, but would absoloutely take him back now!

I just don't see it Cas, not at all.

Daniel Sturridge is older than Thomas Muller. Muller has shone in a World Cup and performed well in the Champions League. What has Sturridge done, really?

He's nowhere near breaking into Chelsea's first team and looks destined to either be farmed out on loan yet again or used as a makeweight in a future transfer deal.

At 21 he should be further on in his development. Rooney was an England regular at 17. We're going backwards!!

Muller also plays in Germany, a league where German players get the chance to shine at a young age, even at big clubs. Players over here don't get that same chance. For the record, Muller could quite easily become another Podolski, someone else who did well early on in his career in Germany and is now an average player at best compared to what people expected of him. I also expect Kroos to far exceed anything Muller achieves in his career.

Sturridge proved last season he's a quality Premier League player, but will wrongfully struggle for first team football this season because Chelsea have Drogba, Torres, Anelka and Kalou on hefty wages who need playing first. Even at the "old" age of 21 Sturridge has the potential to become a Chelsea and England regular in my opinion.

Perhaps. It's all about opinion at the end of the day. What I will say for Sturridge is, he was certainly England's most promising attacker at the U21 Championships.

Oh, and he's definitely no worse than Solomon Kalou that's for sure!
