Newcastle 2-1 Stoke - Suarez 21': Di Natalie 23'; Mandzukic 76'
Newcastle claimed their first 3 points of the season with victory of Stoke. The Newcastle fans were bouncing in the early stages hoping to get their side on board and put a good performance in. After good pressure from the home side, they soon broke down Stoke with a simple one-two with Cabaye and then Luis Suarez hammered home his first of the campaign. Shortly after Stoke were going downhill fast, Antonio Di Natalie this time linking up with Remy and cooly slotting past Begovic. The movement of the front 4 really caught Stoke off guard in the first half. Stoke improved in the 2nd half and were looking likely to score. Eventually they did on 76 minutes when a long ball wasn't dealt with by Vidic, and the ball kindly bounced for Mario Mandzukic to slam home from 15 yards. But that goal came a little bit too late for the Potters and couldn't salvage anything from the game.
MOTM: Remy - Constantly moving about everywhere, linking up with the midfielders in behind him and giving the Stoke CB's a horrible afternoon.
Sunderland 3-0 West Ham - Ibrahimovic 33', 65': Alcantara 88'
Sunderland continued their 100% start to the season by comprehensively beating West Ham by 3 goals. The game was simple from the start for the home side, but were put under some early pressure. But as that cancelled out, the game went quiet. But, from nowhere, a simple long ball taken on the chest by Zlatan Ibrahimovic who swiveled and volleyed the ball which had all sorts of dip and swerve and went right over the keepers head for 1-0. From this moment, plain sailing for Sunderland. Into the 2nd half, the game was wrapped up at 2-0. This time a well worked move between the attacking midfield trio and Salah's cross was met by Zlatan Ibrahimovic again to get in between both CB's and head home to double his tally. Maybe not a hat-trick but a good day for Ibrahimovic as a slip at the back allowed him to race clear. he was forced wide well by the defenders but along came Thiago Alcantara in the box to sweep home his first of the campaign and wrap up a 3-0 win.
MOTM: Ibrahimovic - The defenders struggled all day long with his power and couldn't deal with his qualities on and off the ball. Deserved his 2 goals.
Norwich 2-3 West Brom - Tevez 11, 34; Villa 46': Pato 77': Coutinho 89'
West Brom staged an incredible 2nd half comeback to beat Norwich 2-3 and make it the highest scoring game in the division. Norwich started well and got an early lead. Carlos Tevez went on a brilliant solo run past 2 defenders and just squeezed the ball in at the near post past the keeper. Norwich kept the pressure on but couldn't get a 2nd until the 34th minute. Carlos Tevez once again playing a one-two with Gerrard and then Eriksen, before cutting inside and riffling the ball into the roof of the net for 2-0 at the break. But West Brom seemed to get a clear kick up the backside at half time. They hit back very early as a simple ball into the corner wasn't cleared from kick and within 34 seconds of the re-start, a cross from Pato was met at the near post by David Villa to flick in for 1-2. They then amazingly leveled on 77 minutes with Alexandre Pato and Villa combining again, this time, Villa crossing for the finish of similar quality. Just when you thought the game was over, Phillipe Coutinho comes up with the goods on the break as he is one-on-one with the defender, skips past him, then chips it over the keeper to give West Brom a dramatic win and break the hearts of Norwich fans.
MOTM: Carrick - Although on the losing side, did all the creative work from a deep position and midfielders rarely broke past him, solid game.
Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa - Ruiz 12'; Aguero 55'
Not the most entertaining of games, but both teams came with away with a respectable share of the spoils which both teams will be happy with no doubt. Fulham did start brightly in front of their home fans and had taken an early lead when Bryan Ruiz expertly lifted a free kick up and down over the wall into the top corner, leaving the keeper rooted to his spot. For the remainder of the half, possession was dominated by Villa, but Fulham did well to stifle the game and keep it scrappy. But in the 2nd half, they were broken up as easy as knife through butter. A simple counter attacking move where Dzeko's flick on saw it run through to Sergio Aguero who beat the offside trap (which failed on Varane) and he had taken the ball around the keeper and into the empty net, to the delight of the Villa fans spread in one corner of the stand. The best chance of the match then fell to Koscielny, unmarked at the back post but he fired over from 8 yards to the despair of the Fulham fans, so it finished, 1-1.
MOTM: Ruiz - Constantly moving and tormenting Villa's midfielders. Great from set pieces which is where Fulham's chances came from.
