I really like rooney a proper power forward type player that can do a little bit of everything. his general passing is excellent for a striker, he might not have the most defensive contribution but he can come deep turn and then because he can pass or shoot he has lots of options. the amount of times I have seen someone stand off rooney because he is outside the box and a runner is going past and rooney just shoots with so much venom and accuracy. excellent striker.
in terms of him being past it, I would say he is performing at the same level he has done when he isn't main striker. he averages close to a goal or assist every start(roughly equal in terms of goals/assists). that is an amazing record and nothing to be sniffed at, has been like that for something like 5 years now and this season was no different. when he is played as the main striker which I think he has only done for 2 seasons at manU, he got 26/27 goals in 32 games in 2 separate seasons.
rooney for the quoted 25million pounds would be an interesting buy, massive wages I'm expecting. one aspect I would be worried about is his age, he is still prime level but because he started playing competively so young(10 years or so ago) and has racked up 477 appearances total for both everton and manU with a further 81 for England.
if you compare him to falcao who is a couple of months younger who has racked up 323 career appearances its a big difference. although on the other side of the hat c.ron is a couple of months older then rooney, has 622 career apps and is still going strong.
honestly I really like rooney as a player, seems like a douche outside of the pitch but works hard, has great qualities for a forward and would provide a good type of player to have, one who can play basically anywhere in the front including forward and do well. having him behind lukaku/torres/ba would still work and him being supported by by the attacking mids would work too. he is English too which does matter as I think having English players in an English team.

Right you are.

Thing is, if United sold Rooney to us they'd probably go out and get either Lewandowski or Falcao.

The problem i find with Rooney is he is more a SS than an out and out, so if we bring him in to get the best from him he needs to behind someone, so this means dropping one of Hazard, Mata, or Oscar which i just wouldnt do, and 25 million is too much for a squad player
