Blues on the up?

What a difference a week makes! This week we have signed a player, linked to another, havent sold anyone, talk of investment into BIH and we got a shirt sponsor .

So we get back to business on saturday, so lets talk about something that's happening on the field eh? Bit of player talk! i'm quite confident on our first 11 but still think we need a goal scorer, left winger and a midfielder with a bit about him, then try bag a couple of loan players to make up the squad.

Midfield is the area i'm most concerned, bowyer, ferguson and gardner have left 3 big characters and were left with fahey, mutch, michel and gomis. I havent seen gomis so it would be unfair to comment but I dont see fahey, mutch and michel as the type to take control of a midfield, sprint 20 yards across the pitch and put in a tackle like bowyer, ferguson, gardner would. We need someone who can command the middle of a pitch especially in the championship where teams will see birmingham as a scalp, there biggest game of the season and get in our faces.

The question is, who's available? Who's in our price range? and who will come?

I would suspect that Spector will play a few games in central midfield as he did last season for West Ham.

From the Hammers fans I have spoken to they have said that he is a better midfielder than he is defender.

I think we're alright for a left winger, Beausejour will be a big player for us and if injured or suspended we have Fahey, Redmond, Valles or even Mutch there for cover.
I agree in the middle of the park though, I was hoping we got Dave Jones because he will command that area. We're way too lightweight and I think the middle is our weakest link, I couldn't tell you who we should go for seeing as I don't know who we're after or who is available.
If the Carew rumours are true and we do sign him, despite his Villa past I think he is the type of player in this league to take us back up. If Jerome and Zigic go we need to look at 2 or 3 strikers and avoid Ranger at all cost. I think a strong and realistic side for the season would be;
Myhill
Carr-Davies-Caldwell-Ridgewell
Burke-Mutch- New Player- Beausejour
King-New Player

I'm hoping with everything starting to look better and if Carson isn't guilty, we should invest £2/3,000,000 on players and grab a few decent loans from the league above.

Gomis looks like a very tidy player on the ball, not in the same league as Ferguson but he does at least pass the ball forward!

I think Fahey will come good in the Championship, he was decent the last time we went up, he's not afraid to have a shot on goal and has got a good cross.

We also have some decent wingers for once. Burke has been brilliant pre-season, Redmond looks very exciting, we also have Beausejour who IMO is good enough for the Premier League.

We just need one more striker... being linked with Carew can't do us no harm, I don't care if he played for Villa, he would get us goals in the Championship.

Yeah, things are starting to look up, mind you we said that when CH was brought in, then look what happened.... roll on Saturday though

I'm not going on Saturday but if you are would you film some of your day and put it on you tube with a link for us to see. Especially the banter and any new songs. I'm hoping the match is on adthenet. If your going have a good day and stay out if trouble.

Hold up! What about Michel??

We were all hoping to see more of him, and now (with luck) we will see him hold down the midfield role.

For me, Michel, Mutch (very good for Watford last year) Fahey and Gomis is a very good central midfield

But I guess we will see come Saturday

It will be my first away game for many years as I don't drive, but luckily have a friend to give me lift. Getting really excited now

I think this has generally been the case in football since the sport began; a week, or even a day, can make a huge difference. People tend to react too negatively, too quickly. Think the phrase is knee-jerk, reactions that can however work both ways. Scott Dann could leave for Arsenal next week after we lose to Derby, how will things look then? Pretty damn poorly compared with thrashing them 3-0 and keeping Scotty - I think the best mindset for us Blues fans at the moment is a casual optimisim, taking each day as it comes as it were.
To be honest, the negativity surrounding our club is understandable in the aftermath of relegation, but the general belief that we're pants and will finish 8th - read this verdict in the paper today - has shocked, and amused me, at the same time. I'm shokused, to make up a word. I'm sorry, but IF Scott Dann stays we'll be on course for 2nd, if not first IF we avoid serious injuries. Over 100 points IF we get John Carew too. IF IF IF!!!
