Had a discussion yesterday with my uncle about Uniteds best eleven during Fergies era, however with the twist of debating certain players and their best seasons for the club. We had many differing views. He grew up watching Robson, McClair and co, whereas my memory serves me best from mid 90's on-wards. But here's my best 11 over the years in regards to players when i considered were at their best.
Schemeichel - I was ensured (although he had many great seasons) his 94/95 season was his best according to my uncle. 'He had no other keeper in the world who could match him'.
G.Neville - 06/07: Now club captain, he took on the role and lead the team to their first title in 4 years and lead a charge in Europe, he was magnificent.
Ferdinand - 07/08: For me, this was THE season that finally realised his world-class potential, and arguably took over the mantle from Cannavaro as the best DF in the world.
Vidic 10/11 - A colossal of a defender, and should have been voted PFA player of the year that season.
Evra 07/08 - After a disastrous debut in 05/06 against City he eventually came good, 06/07 he competed with Heinze for a spot in the team, but 07/08 he made LB his own, and his performance away at Barca was one of the most concentrated and controlled defensive jobs i have seen.
Ronaldo 07/08 - I don't really need to say much do i?
Keane 98/99 - Difficult to choose a season, but 98/99 shades it from 99/00.
Scholes 06/07 - This was hotly debated. I believe his 02/03 season was exceptional, his partnership with RVN, drove us to the title that season, he really was a gem. However, after returning from an eye injury, his 06/07 brought a level of performance on the pitch which not only confirmed how sorely missed he was, but also reaffirmed his greatness, he was sublime and was the chief 'architect'.
Giggs 06/07: In a season which now saw him as one of the 'older guys' helping the younger members of the team, he along with Neville stepped up. His intelligence on the field brought out the best for his teammates and i believe his contribution was very underrated for that season.
RVN - 02/03: For me, the best striker the club has had during the Fergie era. He stood out during a time of many great strikers not just in the PL but in Europe. His goal away at Basle was a thing of beauty.
Rooney - 09/10: With Ronaldo and Tevez gone, Rooney stepped up and lead the attack, this was for me Rooney at his best, physically and fitness wise he looked great, he still had the ability to run at defenders, link-up with his teammates, play a disciplined role tactically (most prominent away at Arsenal with his false 9 role and both matches against Milan and away at Bayern), and also his technique was wonderful, as well as his movement too. Up until that injury at Bayern, i really felt we had a forward who took on the challenge of providing goals and over the course of the season got better and better.
Honorable mentions to VDS, Irwin, Stam, Yorke, Cole, Robson, Cantona (i wish i saw the best of him!). (Sorry for the long article)

Not many people tend to agree regarding Scholes, but yes, I also think he was at his best from 06-08 when he started playing the deeper role.

For me Irwin was fergies best left back. Probably one of his best ever signings.
