If Wenger Retired Tomorrow...

After a certain retirement from somebody it got me wondering, if Wenger announced his retirement tomorrow, what type of reception would he receive from the fans?

Despite not winning a trophy for 8 years for Arsenal, from a neutrals perspective you would thank and applaud him for the great things he has achieved in nearly two decades at Arsenal, but most importantly for English football. There have been a number of times over the past years, where Arsenal fans have been frustrated by Wenger, some call for his head, but others back him. However, I always see it as be careful what you wish for and be grateful with what you have got.

The simple reason is, for me, if Wenger retired tomorrow, despite not winning a trophy for 8 years, he would still be regarded as one of the managerial greats. Not bad, for a guy that has won nowt for 8 years, right? It just goes to show, if he left Arsenal tomorrow, every club in the world would want him at their doorstep if ever given the opportunity.

I feel the greatest thing that Arsene Wenger will leave behind is a legacy, not just for Arsenal, but for the English Premier League. I have always believed that it is not just about trophies, but the kind of impact you have on a club and the kind of impact you leave behind.

The day he came into English Football he was a nobody, the day he leaves he will leave as a great.

Arsene will have his critics, but he'll be missed, the day he retires and without a doubt he'll retire as a great, whether he wins a trophy again or not.

Still came close in 08 though. A win at Old Trafford away from winning the league.

Swap Adebayor for even a half decent striker that year and we win at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Anfield (in the champions league) and probably do a league and CL double.

The Torres of that year and we'd have walked the league.
Fact.

We had the options. Unfortunately, Eduardo and van Persie were injured.

That was sort of what I meant. Injuries to key strikers ruined our season.

We were heavily linked with Anelka in the winter transfer period of that season, but Chelsea got him instead. Anelka then went on to play a big part in our defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Ah, fair do's. The Arsenal injury curse ruining us again. Wenger should still have been bold enough to take the plunge on another given that at the the time of the January transfer window RVP wasn't available and had already proved himself as someone who our trus could not yet be put into. 2 strikers (one of whom was awful, the other of whom was still new to the country and the league) going into Febuary and beyond was just out and out neglect from Wenger and another in a line of glaring mistakes he's made in the last 8 years.

Long since gone now though, so no use wallowing - (though I often still do about just what might have been for that team had they taken one of those titles).

wenger built the culture at arsneal like barcalona, munich all big clubs have there own philosophy so 20 years to built that you dont want to change everything with a new manager. but yes the new manager will have individual ideas and you can't be successful if you try to copy somebody else
