This is a quote from Derby County's chief executive Sam Rush.

"Derby have some of country's best players"
posted on 20/5/13
Manchester and London have enquired, but it's correct to say the right offer hasn't been made yet. For any player, at any time, there is a price at which the club would sell. All the top clubs are watching but Hughes has said he is happy where he is for now. I think I am right in saying he has no agent so other clubs can't stir things up in quite the same way.
For the buying club, there is risk that a substantial outlay on a very young player may not work out, against a risk that delaying bumps up the price or that they miss out on the player. Since Hughes isn't looking to leave, it needs a big bid to persuade Derby to cash in now. As the selling club, the risk in not selling now is that his promise won't sustain and his value may fall, against the risk of selling before he has reached peak value.
We will see. Many of us think he is the best young player we have ever seen at Derby. Perhaps we have all got it wrong.

Vidal, when I watched him pretty much run the show in the final game of the 2011-12 season I knew he was something special. I took my brother along to that match, and he commented how good he was and was stunned to find he had just turned 17 and was making his first start. You can just tell with him, he is already on another level with his passing and vision. The only reason he faded away a little this season was because of overuse. I look forward to seeing him develop even further, and have no doubt he will be a regular england international in a few years time. Sorry forest fans, that's how good he actually is. Jealousy is a cruel mistress.

He hasn't gone unnoticed by other clubs either, during the crystal palace/brighton match, I was reading a thread about wilfreid zaha on the man utd board, as they were discussing their new aquisition, and at least 5 seperate people all mentioned will hughes as being another special talent they would like to see at old trafford.

You sheep please tell me. Is Will Hughes, Boris Johnson's love child? I don't know what it is but there appears to be some striking resemblance.

He had quiet games against Forest and I 'm not surprised that people who have only seen him play in those matches are underwhelmed. Not many players stand out in local derbies! Both were turgid affairs with little opportunity to get on the ball.
With some players you can't tell, they look promising but don't develop. Others look average but can turn into great players. With Hughes you just know. He has that something about him. When I first saw Huddlestone play I thought he was an England player in the making. He still looks a class act to me but hasn't quite hit the very top level. Hughes I would say is a notch above Huddlestone in his ability and potential and is still at an incredibly early stage of his career. His maturity on the ball is astonishing, way above what most of his peers reach at the peak of their careers. I think for that reason he could step up fairly quickly into a Premiership team, maybe after one more season at Derby. I don't think he needs a couple of years gradually learning the ropes in a big team's squad, like some do, before they get in the starting eleven. Great players will love playing with him. He's got the world at his feet, good luck to him, and good luck to us that we have seen him in one of our shirts.

Yes, enjoy the good times as, unfortunately, we are both in the second division and there is little we can do if a big city team comes knocking.

Why's this floated to the surface again? Surely Derby fans don't think they really have some of the best players in the country? In the Championship? Really? Nah, they're not that wet.
