Birmingham City 2-2 Chelsea
Goal Scorers: Van Persie(Kaka), Yaya Toure(De Jong); Mata(Sahin), Aguero(Torres)
Report: The final of the pre season tournament, between two sides who were looking to prove their title credentials. Birmingham made a fast start putting pressure on the Chelsea defence and took an early lead when Kaka squeezed the ball through for Van Persie who finished perfectly into the bottom corner. Birmingham continued to put the pressure on and they forced Cesar into a good save, tipping Eto'o's curling effort round the post. Chelsea had their first chance when Sahin released Bale down the left, he beat Maincon before clipping in a cross towards Torres that Vermealen headed away, but onlt Essien who fired a shot back in and Cech pushed it away to safety before Abidal cleared. Birmingham were soon back on the attack though with Wilshere playing the ball outwide to Robben and he won a corner off Marcelo. The corner was delivered in and Pepe flicked it on, forcing Cesar to tip over the bar. Chelsea slowley worked their way back into the half and had a great chance to level when Torres escaped the challenge of Abidal and sent in a low cross that Aguero sent straight into the arms of Cech. Chelsea did get an equalizer late in the half when Sahin played a good ball over the top for Mata to run onto and loft over the out rushing keeper. Birmingham brought on De Jong for Wilshere as the second half started and Chelsea began to take more control of the game, first Torres fired wide of the post before Pepe made a perfectly timed tackle on Aguero to stop him shooting. Birmingham made farther changes with Gervinho and Campbell on. Chelsea continued to put the pressure on as Birmingham struggled to keep possession upfront. Chelsea turned the game around when Marcelo brought the ball forward and played Torres into space and his cut back set up Aguero to make it 2-1. Chelsea were the ones in control of possession but Birmingham nearly scored on the counter when Robben raced into space and found Campbell but he was easily shrugged off by Terry who played the ball to Sahin, the Turkish midfielder sent Mata into space outwide, he cut in then played Lahm down the line and his cross almost fellperfectly for Torres but again Vermealen did well to clear. Late on Birmingham got an equalizer against the run of play, De Jong winning the ball and sending Yaya Toure running forward, he powered his way through the Chelsea defence before hammering in the goal to send the game to penalties.
