Shelvey- time to shine

As another season passes Captain Marvel edges closer to the end of a glittering career. only shining light at times in a difficult period of our illustrious history.

We need someone in his mold to start stepping up now..someone who has the drive, passion , ability....and i might get stick for this but i can see those signs in Jonjo Shelvey

Now hear me through. Gerrard was not always a swashbuckling attacking midfielder he played at both full back positions under Houiller. in fact he was excellent at RB against Huddersfield in an FA Cup game if memory serves me right. and he was immense in extra time marking a fresh Serginho in Istanbul plus the clearance off the line in the 3-2 win over Everton in 99 so Jonjo being a similar age to what Gerarrd was then he can step up.

with Shelvey nearing 50 games in the league for Liverpool he needs to start realizing this potential. No one can doubt Jonjos drive, aggression, shooting and physique

or am i missing the point
? .

What Toor said, same goes for Carra they can't be replaced, but for what it's worth I do think Shelvey has the ability to be a top player for us.

Shelvey was one of the disappointments of last season. His lack of pace and mobility gets exposed in the prem. He needs to play more deeper but hes behind Allen, Gerrard and Hendo for that role.

The past 10 years we have not had an entire squad of top quality, hopefully looseing gerrard but gaining 2+ quality players will help.

Shelvey should be made into a deep-lying playmaker but because of his bad attitude, he'll never agree to it.

When he has options in front of him he really picks a pass and his range of passing is very good. Play him deeper and give him more options and he'll shine imo.

However i remember an interview where he said he likes playing CAM because he can score goals and not do any defensive work. That right there shows me he'll probably never realise his potential with us.

What a crock of shiiiiite.

Shelvey ASKED to be played deeper for the U21's. BR has spoken about it several times.

I wish people wouldn't talk balls about players 'attitudes', based on basically nothing other their own perception from TV.

I've not seen much from shelvey to suggest he can really kick on to another level. He can pick a pass and has a good shot, but is very slow and has a poor temprament. His decision making seems a litttle off at times as well.

For me he he could be a useful squad player when used sensibly, but I very much doubt that he is going to the top, and as TOOR said, will not replace Gerrard, because nobody will.

Shelvey cannot play in a midfield two at the top in my opinion. Two good feet, decent passing range and not bad tekkers but he is nowhere near Gerrards level. In fact I don't see what he is better at now than from when he joined.

Got to agree with Rightous also. Bollox that is.

Righteous1 is correct, Sheley requested to learn the deep playing role in the u21's and anyone who watches the game can see him performing well in it,

He knocks great, and accurate cross field balls to switch play a la gerrard, hes got drive determination and a good shot.

Hes also got passion to succeed and thats what gets him in trouble, hes just too on edge all the time, pumped up on his adrenaline, but he WILL learn to control that.

Once his tackling improves he will be a solid premier league level central midfielder. Jonjo has BAGS of talent to realise.

I also hear on the grapevine that jonjo is one of the players who puts in extra practise, and considering his request to work on the weaker part of his game in the u21's (defensive) Im inclined to believe it.

I dont get where these bad attitude rumours come from
