James McFadden

I see McFadden is still without a club.

Yes he is just back from a serious injury, he'd need to prove his fitness, and would be very expensive, but....

1. We need an attacking midfielder.
2. He would put bums on seats, paying for himself.
3. Would generate a more positive atmosphere around the malaise of 'Todders
4. Signing would maybe show that the board are not the bunch of unambitious tools, we've come to know and despise.
5. Okay he wouldn't be on as much as in England, but if we make a decent and sensible offer, he might be tempted.
6. It means he can continue his career without all the hassle of playing for either of the Gruesome Twosome.
7. Keeps him in the mix for Scotland.

Yes, he would be going into a team low on confidence and ability, but could his arrival lift them? Only question mark is over his fitness, we all know his ability.

Think this could be a winner all round.

Thoughts, fellow Dandies...

So you've seen his P60, then? Everton have not come in for him, so I think you can forget that. Sure he'd need to take a pay cut but he'd be assured of a game, if fit, whereas he's currently clicking his heels at the moment.

Have I woken up in a parallel universe?

McFadden to Aberdeen? there are so many reasons that's not going to happen.

Maybe when he's 38-40, not while he can still run.

Let's be honest, many of us would like to see it, but if Aberdeen can't attract Gavin Rae, then there's pretty much nae chance of McFadeen signing up.
Birmingham wanted to take up the option of a further year's extension, and he turned it down, so let's face it, there must be a few clubs out there willing to punt out at least £20k a week on a guy who would have probably commanded around a £6m fee if he was under contract...

Money. So that's 15-25,000 reasons a week.

And also the fact that Aberdeen would be competing with championship clubs who would be able to effortlessly match even the most ambitious offer.

It's pure fantasy.

What makes any Dons fan think they would be able to go from years of free transfers and loans to suddenly signing a Premiership-quality internationalist on full wages?

Barcelona, strange but true, I agree with you.
Where would they get the money?
He could still play rof some lower table P.L. team or even Championship teams would easily out bid Aberdeen.
Pay as you play? I don't think he would even consider that.

We already discussed that up thread, so you're not exactly adding to the debate.

"Aberdeen would be competing with championship clubs who would be able to effortlessly match even the most ambitious offer."

As far as I'm aware no championship clubs have made an offer to McFadden, so I'm no sure what you're talking about.

"It's pure fantasy."

I agree, it's very unlikely. I don't think any Aberdeen fans actually expect this to happen. It's more of a hypothetical question of why not?

"What makes any Dons fan think they would be able to go from years of free transfers and loans to suddenly signing a Premiership-quality internationalist on full wages?"

Maybe because Stewart Milne is incredibly rich. Again, no-one thinks he will pay that kind of money, but he is able to.

"He could still play rof some lower table P.L. team or even Championship teams would easily out bid Aberdeen."

There are hundreds of teams across the globe who could out bid Aberdeen, but only if they put a bid in. Since the season has already started and McFadden doesn't have a club yet, it would suggest clubs aren't lining up to sign him.
