If we were to sell Suarez for the reported £40 million, how many players do we sign as replacement? There are very few players as good as Suarez, and certainly none that we would realistically get. However, there is no doubt we would need serious re-investment in the squad, and if we sold other players (Carroll, Skrtel, Downing and Assaidi) for another £30 mil we would have substantial funds and available wages to do just that.
But my problem would be that we already had our rebuilding season last year, can we really afford another major squad overhaul? By my calculations we would need another 4 players in on top of the proposed transfers of Toure, aspas and Luis Alberto, a huge change in the squad with the departures above on top of carragher.
Personally, I think a substantial overhaul may be possible, and somewhat necessary, assuming top quality players are brought in. But most importantly, we would need any business to be done in time for a full pre-season, we cant afford another slow start like last year.
So, thats my thoughts. What do my fellow fans think? im sure we can all agree that we needed substantial improvement anyway, but would a major overhaul be wise, or even possible?
quite the predicament

We just say to whoever wants him - pay us £50m or forget it. Suarez is on contract so just make him stay. If he doesn't like it he can play in the reserves.
It's time we started making these footy players respect their contracts.

is it worth losing 50 million ( say a 50 fee and wages for a player in the reserves) just to make a point though??

i just think any player requesting to leave will instantly lose value off of his fee.
any buying club knows the player doesnt want to be there so it benefits them.
by saying what he has said, i dont think Suarez has helped the club one bit.

Dunc - my point was if they argue about the price. If we can get 50m then take it - if not then let's stop getting shafted over transfers.

Suso - good point. We should do the same. If they want him then they'll pay.
