McCarey's call up to Irish senior squad http://www.wolves.co.uk/news/article/aarons-eyes-are-smiling-090613-858568.aspx
underlines embarrassment of riches in our goalkeeping department given our league 1 status. It's surely an area where Thelwell et al. will be operating behind the scenes to get players off the wage bill. 4 senior keepers on the books at the moment so who do you a) want and b) expect to stay?
I previously said that McCarey might be shipped out on season long loan with De Vries leaving permanently, Ikeme and Hennessey competing for number one and Cotman as back up. McCarey's call up plus his run of first team football at Walsall suggests that he could comfortably take on the number two role this season.
Our goalkeepers seem infinitely more shiftable than some of the outfield players who have been in a long term slump backed up by fat contracts. So now I'm thinking that as the summer progresses and we get no takers for the outfield players we might end up waving goodbye to Hennessey and De Vries. As Crikey has pointed out previously, now would be the worst time to sell Hennessey as we won't be getting good value but he's bound to be of interest to Premier League clubs and this is made more certain precisely because of the finances at present which ensure he's a safe buy (even if he never usurps their first choice keeper, he's unlikely to yield a loss). De Vries is bound to pick up a Championship club on the back of his performances in Swansea's promotion season.
So, could be we start the season with Ikeme, McCarey, Cotman?
Embarrassment of riches

Damn you and your questions, gb.

Lets be honest, the premier league is very average despite all the hype and bullsh@t, its hardly any more competitive than the scottish league before rangers decline.......2 of 12.......3 of 20!?!
The weekends England game showed yet again how overrated English football is as a whole.....15 million quid zaha, you must be kidding........humiliated by Norway.
In answer to your question GB.....Wolves Sheff utd is an infinitely bigger better game to watch....one is two teams battling out a division to possibly become champions, the other is a game to avoid relegation and more importantly load the pockets of the club, no glory at all.

You do talk rubbish at times cinci. The average Premier League team would be UEFA Cup contenders in any league other than Germany, Spain and Italy. The Average SPL team would present us with 6 points next next season.

Thank you aires and gb for clarifying the issue.
The day some on here desist, hell will freeze over.
They're the ones who look foolish and I'm sure not many understand about their clubs accountants either, but they pretend they do.

Tara, I don't have Sky if only because I work abroad most of the year so don't get my money's worth watching it, but if I did I would watch loads of other sports. Man Utd v Man City should be better football, but lower league stuff can be just as interesting for different reasons.

Jonathan Flatt is highly rated as well. Saw him play in Matt Murrays testimonial and was impressed.

I’d be happy to move Ikeme out in the summer and start with DeVries and McCarey as back up. January would be the time to think about moving Hennessey on
