According to reports today Reading FC are on the verge of signing former Real Madrid player Royston Drenthe.
The former Dutch international, according to voetbalprimeur.nl, has agreed a three-year deal with the Championship side and will complete his medical on Tuesday. Drenthe spent last season with Russian side Alania, but were relegated from the Russian top division. Due to a relegation release clause in his contract, the one-time Dutch international will move to the Royals on a free transfer.
The 26-year old, who made 65 appearances for Real Madrid, primarily plays as a left-winger, but can capably slot in as a left-back.
Of course, the 2011-12 season he was on a season-long loan to Everton. Here are a few comments from the sensible Everton 'ToffeeTalk form' the last 24 hours:
- As most have said, very talented and if he's sorted his head it'd be a great signing.
- Fantastic signing. If he's a changed man like he says he is then he's Premiership quality.
- Wonderful signing if true.
- He is a dynamic attacking player who will frighten the life out of any opposition, and score plenty, but his downside has been his off the field issues. I'd have him back at Everton if he could sort his head out.
So ... what do the Reading fans make of it?!

Would be a cracking signing... was a pretty decent premiership player so think he would do really well in the Championship.

He's a good player, never one of Evrton's best though, to say he has come from Real Madrid in honesty. We are probably better than Alania and didn't do too much there either. Do we really need another winger? Or is this guy a replacement for HRK when he decides to 'stay' in the PL?
